This took Lisa off-guard. All she could do was stare at him with wide eyes. Like me? she thought. The sun was setting and the lights from the buildings below were slowly twinkling into life. The wind was blowing at them gently and the deviant combination of warmth and cold embraced her as she stood there, unmoving.
Her mind cannot seem to process what Bambam just said but when he looked at her, he sighed deeply and all he uttered was, "Let's go, it's getting late."
She tried to close her eyes, urging for sleep to claim her, yet something kept her mind wandering. His words rang over and over again, like a never-ending echo. His melancholic smile etched on the back of her lids, not wanting to leave her.
She abandoned all hopes of being lulled to sleep since the buzzing of the events a few hours ago seem to keep her awake anyways. She decided to think about her routine for the next episode. Fall. She was going to dance about failure. But now, with only three days left, another thought came to her.
What if...
She grabbed her notebook, played a few songs on her laptop, and propped her phone on a stand. Sleep was long forgotten as she she moved and danced along the rhythm. By morning, she had sent her recording to her team, profusely saying sorry for the sudden changes. They were patient with her and were very much willing to practice as early as 8am till late night for the remaining days.
When the day of the shoot came, she sat on her seat in front of her designated vanity. The others were busy preparing right after greeting one another. She was looking around when her eyes fell upon the figure that just entered.
Bambam's eyes immediately found her. She almost looked away but it was as if his gave was a magnet she couldn't resist. He smiled at her softly and walked towards her. Butterflies were roaming in her stomach, for reasons she wasn't sure of. She was pinching herself, maybe to force these unexpected and unwelcomed feelings from her.
"Hey," he said only a few steps left before he was half a meter away. She didn't know when it started but she noticed how much has changed in him for the past weeks. How his movements were a lot more languid, the curve of his smile were smaller and never fully reached his eyes. His laughs were shorter and lighter. She smiled back at him, trying not to show the contagious sadness he caught from him.
He was about to say more when his team called for him so could prepare since he was a little late. She bit her lip as he walked away.
She wasn't left with much time to think about it because she was called a minute after for her performance.
Compared to her past stages, the usual somber music was replaced by one that is thrilling. As if the tune and melody were creeping on your skin to the back of your neck. There she was in the middle of a stage, veiled and standing in front of a mirror, trying to reach for the image that she sees. Then more mirrors came into that stage, encircling her. She tries to look back at the first mirror but it was gone. She tried to reach the figure behind one of the mirrors but falls through as they shifted once again, further confusing Lisa. Over and over again she reaches for another only to fall. And then the music slowed, she looked behind her and see a mirror with a hand reaching past the frame. She turned slowly, her pace growing as she runs towards him. Their hands clasped together and the music once again quickened, shedding the horror it once held. He pulled her in and her body passed through the frame, taken in by the man's embrace. He turned, lifting Lisa whose arms firmly encircled around his shoulders, slowly falling onto the ground while the lights dimmed with the last prolonged note.
To fall is both a curse and a blessing. I can only hope for the latter.
The casts that came before her greeted Lisa as she sat down. They congratulated her for a job well done, which she accepted with a shy smile.
After Seulgi was Bambam's turn.
The melody was enchanting but it felt distant. He was clad in a subtle silver while his partner in gold. The girl danced freely around as the background shimmered in the dark. She seemed so happy, unknowing of the figure behind her who watches her with gentle yearning. His eyes followed, body swaying along with her every move. Once she slowed down, he hesitantly rose up trying to get to her, yet her eyes did not see him. With every move he makes towards her, she turns away. He tried to grab hold of her hand but falls instead when she moves away, blissfully and ignorantly dancing to the melody. The lights shifted when she disappeared, only showing him, a lone, silver figure dancing softly. His eyes were closed and form slumped, every movement heavy until the lights have gone, but not before he opened his eyes and lifted them towards the side.
Lisa caught her breathe as their gazes met until his were swallowed by the darkness. Her heart was racing and her eyes tried to follow the figure that can no longer be seen.
"Love, huh?" SinB whispered towards her, one brow raised.
"I-I guess so..." she replied. It was a weird coincidence for many that they were the only ones who used love as a subject for the theme. But she knew where his mind was at with their recent conversations. "I think it's the childhood friend telepathy."
"Sure..."
They didn't win. It wasn't that big of a deal for Lisa. She liked her stage so the results didn't matter.
"That was amazing, Bam," she congratulated her friend once they were left alone. She was a little conscious with the mess of the emotions that she's been feeling.
"Didn't win, though." He smiled but he didn't seem as sad as he did a while ago. Maybe because his dance has already done its purpose.
"Well, I love it," she bit the insides of her cheek. She really did but she does feel like something was missing. Not on his part, though.
"You did," his smile widened, which she mirrored. "Too bad I didn't get to see yours, though."
"It's fine. At least you won't feel bad," she smirked.
"Hey! What'd you mean by that?" His eyes narrowed and she just giggled. He chuckled softly and said his goodbye after being called by his manager. Lisa's smile didn't fall, his laughter still echoing in her ears.
