Roman and I finish cleaning the house after a couple of hours. Roman played Disney music the entire time. Mostly Hakuna Matata from the Lion King since he said it was good cleaning music and would lift our spirits. Getting rid of all the dust, cobwebs, insects, and anything else that doesn't belong here already made me happy but the music might have helped a little. I respect the dead and want to do something nice for Roman's mother. She took good care of me and made me feel like I was her own son. Once we finish with cleaning we go upstairs and to the end of the hallway where the string coming down from the attic door is.
Roman gently grabs the string and pulls down the ladder. Some cobwebs fall and Roman makes a noise full of disgust and unpleasantness.
I climb up first and Roman follows me, he pulls out his cell phone from his pocket and turns on the flashlight to give us some light to find the lightbulb since the chain that you pull to turn on and off the light is connected to it. It is in the center of the room hanging from the ceiling. Just a lightbulb and a chain. I pull it and it still works.
We look around to see a lot of boxes with writing on them, white sheets covering furniture, and a lot of dust and spiderwebs with spiders in them so Roman avoids them.
I look at a nearby box labeled, PROOF OF MAGICAL CREATURES. Roman's mother always was very creative and imaginative. I leave the box alone and then see in the corner of a room a long wooden table with some papers on it along with familiar looking boxes.
They are made out of popsicle sticks, strings, tape, and have some small items inside to resemble a house.
I walk over to the table, a small faint smile coming to my face, "Roman, I found the contraptions. They look to be in working order."
Roman walks over to me quickly, he gasps as he sees them, "They look perfect! Aside from being covered in dust."
I carefully pick them up and we head down and out of the attic. Roman closes the attic door and we head to the front door.
Roman says, "I can't believe this. Everything is the same. Nothing has changed over these last two years."
I reply as I open the door and we walk out onto the front porch, "Well I'm not surprised. No one has been here in two years."
Roman nods, "Yeah. True. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised but here we are."
We walk off the porch and towards the woods. The sky is orange and pink since the sun is going down.
Roman leads us to the clearing in the woods where we always would do this. He lets out a content sigh, "Are you ready Logan?" He asks as he turns to me.
I nod, "I'm ready."
Roman smiles, "With these traps and the time being the weakest boundary-" he starts the phrase that his mother taught us.
I continue it, "We demand that two creatures not from our world give into the human traps as we want-"
Back to Roman, "To learn of your kind and make a bond unheard of and-"
Back to me, "Unimaginable and unknown."
The wind stops blowing and then after a few seconds the wind starts blowing very hard in fast in circles. Roman grabs me since I almost fall. I am slim and not that strong since I'm more on the academic side and nerdy side as most people call it.
Once the wind goes away, everything stops. There are no noises from any kinds of animals. We look around confused but the wind and noises come back.
Roman is the one to break the silence, "That has never happened before... What was that?"
I look around, "I'm not sure. For once I do not have the answer." Saying that makes me uncomfortable since I always have the answer and I always know what is going on.
During school I was sent to early learning and always top of my class. I isolated myself from other students so I could focus on my grades and being the best so my parents would be proud of me. They never were. Roman is the only person to show that he is happy for me and proud to have me as friend. Even though I'm his manager, we do not let work get in the way of our personal lives since that would ruin everything.
We have been friends since elementary school and made an everlasting bond.
Roman looks at me, "Let's get back to the house before it gets too dark."
I nod, "Good idea."
We quickly make our way back to the house and once inside we lock the door behind us. We set down the contraptions onto the wooden table in the living room that as a table cloth that was handmade by Roman's great grandmother. It is red and green with neat designs in it.
We both go to the bathroom, Roman upstairs and me downstairs to shower and do our normal night routines. Then we eat some food, which is ramen since we both are too tired to make an actual meal.
We say our good nights and then go lay down to get some much needed rest. Today has been a busy and productive day so we deserve it.
I set my glasses on the bedside table next to the alarm clock and bury my face in the pillow that smells like firewood and the woods. I soon fall into a peaceful, calm, sleep.
Unaware of what we have just put onto ourselves. And the creatures that are waiting for us to wake.
This is where the story of the unbelievable starts and our new life begins.
