Act 2 Chapter 5
Luke had been enjoying the carnival. Until he had lost Emily, and almost got himself killed, that is.
He had been playing a virtual-reality game on one of the many gaming pods present there, when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
He turned around, to find a very pretty girl standing behind him. She had long blonde hair, and big ice-blue eyes. Strangely enough, she was wearing a purple cheer-leading outfit that said ''Goode Pride'' in big, black letters.
''Hi! My name's Tammi!'', she said, smiling brightly.
''H-hi! I'm L-Luke!"
He mentally face-palmed himself. So much for a good first impression.
Tammi's eyes narrowed. ''Luke, huh? That's an interesting name''
''Y-yeah. I g-guess it is''
He was literally kicking himself. Why was he stuttering like an absolute idiot?
Tammi smiled brightly again. ''I know someone who was looking for you!''
''Is it Emily?'', he asked hopefully, mentally sighing in relief.
There was no way in Hades he could admit to an overprotective Zhang family that he'd lost their daughter.
He shuddered at the thought of being confronted by either of Emily's parents. But her siblings were worse. Mary was not someone he wanted to cross on one of her rare good days. And Sammy...well, he could transform into a dragon with just a single thought. If that wasn't scary, he didn't know what was.
"Yes, of course it's Emily!" Tammi said, her eyes turning slightly darker. Luke's 'monster-meter' , as Leo had so kindly dubbed his incredible instincts when it came to monsters, pointed out the obvious red flags.
'It can't be that bad' Luke said, arguing with himself, 'I'm probably too paranoid anyways. Besides, if she was a monster wouldn't she have attacked me already?'
"Lead the way!", Luke said decisively, moving away from the game. Tammi grabbed his hand and led him away from all the crowd. She led him past a fuel station, took a left near a fast-food joint, and they emerged at a store.
The sign read, in bright red letters, ''Aunty Em's Garden Gnome Emporium''.
It looked like it was shut. There were no lights on, nor was there anybody about.
"Where's Emily?", he asked, stepping closer to Tammi. She smelt weird. Like a combination of roses...and clean animal fur.
"Funny story, Luke Jackson, but I may have stretched the truth a tiny bit", Tammi said, smiling yet again.
Luke's blood felt like ice.
''How do you know my last name?", he demanded, his hand instinctively reaching for Falchion, his faithful sword.
Tammi winked, ignoring his question in favour of whispering some incoherent Greek.
"Don't move", she whispered, and to his utter horror, he found that his arms were pinned to his sides and his feet were firmly rooted to the ground.
