Act 2 Chapter 6

"Stand up child", the voice, both stern and tender instructed her.

"I... I killed them", she whispered, "I killed them!"

"Why else do you think I'm here?" the voice turned frigid.

She wiped away her tears, gulping noisily. In front of her was a man dressed like a funeral conductor.

"Who are you?" she asked. His eyes darkened, and for the first time, she noticed how much mania they held.

He held out his hand, and without even seeing what was happening behind her, she knew. She knew that the bodies of the fallen demigods were gone.

She backed away hastily, and dipped into a wobbly bow.

"Lord Hades", her voice broke, and she winced as exhaustion crashed over her in waves.

Hades made a hand gesture, and instantly, she felt much better.

"W-why are you here Lord Hades?" she asked timidly.

"I go wherever death does", he announced grandly, before rolling his eyes and saying, "I'm a god. I'm omnipotent. Besides, I have a warning for you"

She waited, and he gazed at her blankly.

"The warning?" she prompted.

"Oh. Right. Use your powers like this again and you won't survive. Also, your friend Luke is dying right now"

"WHAT?!"

"I said... your friend, Luke, is-"

"No! I heard you the first time. Take me there! I have to save him!!"

"I'm afraid I have already crossed my boundaries too much. It's strictly against my beliefs to help annoying demigods"

"LEGACY!" she corrected, gritting her teeth.

"Yes. Yes. Why can't you stay alive longer?" Hades whined, "Do you know how annoying it is with Persephone making dinner plans and me having to cancel because someone keeps summoning me? Let me answer that. VERY!"

Emily tuned out. If Hades wasn't going to help her, she was going to have to help herself. She could shadow travel. The problem was, she didn't know where Luke was.

She closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. Her uncle Nico had told her that sometimes, shadow travel was more of an instinct than a plan.

He had said that sometimes, without even thinking about where he was going, he would still end up next to Will, or Reyna, or any of the Seven. The point was, her powers would hopefully know where to take her.

She felt the shadows crawling towards her eagerly. She pictured Luke's face in her mind, his kind eyes, and his sunny smile, and the way he'd tug her hand, leading her eagerly to whatever he wanted to show her.

"Help me. Please help me save him"

The shadows engulfed her completely, and with a whoosh, she was hurtling through darkness.
