One and One is Two

The Filter

Meg was looking out the glass walls of the fish tank thinking about her friends.

"You miss McCartney don't ya, Sharkbait?" said Gill.

"Yes"

"Well. You're lucky to have someone out there who's looking for ya" 

"He's not looking for me. He's not big on the ocean"

"Hmm. Peach? Any movement?" said Gill.

"He's had at least four cups of coffee. It's gotta be soon" said Peach.

Gill looked at Meg's face and tried to make things less awkward by talking to her.

"My first escape landed on dental tools. I was aiming for the toilet. All drains lead to the ocean, honey" he said.

"Wow. How many times have you tried to escape?" Meg said.

"Eh, I've lost count. Fish aren't meant to be in a box, honey. It does things to ya" said Gill.

"He just grabbed the reader's digest! We have 4.2 minutes!" Peach announced.

"That's your cue, Sharkbait" said Gill.

"You can do it, Meg" said Bloat.

"Okay. Once you get in, swim down to the bottom of the chamber and I'll talk you through the rest. Go on. It'll be a piece of kelp" said Gill.

Meg did as she was told and Gill tossed her a pebble.

"Okay. Now. Do you see a small opening?" said Gill.

"Uh-huh"

"Okay. Inside it, you'll see a rotating fan. Very carefully, wedge that pebble into the fan to stop it from turning"

Meg tried but she couldn't do it the first time. 

"I can't do it" she said.

"Gill, this isn't a good idea" said Peach.

"She'll be fine. Try again" said Gill.

Meg tried again and this time it worked.

"I did it!" she squealed.

"She did it!" shouted Gurgle.

"That's great, hon. Now swim up the tube and out" said Gill.

As Meg swam up the tube, the fan started again.

The fish had her grab a plastic seaweed so they could pull her out.

"Gill. Don't make her go back in there" said Peach.

"I'm sorry. I didn't do it. Will I still get back to Paul soon?" Meg sobbed.

"No. We're done" said Gill swimming away.

Looks like Meg's lost hope.

Will Paul find her?
