One and One is Two

The Tank Gang

Meg was taken out of the box and into an underwater environment she'd never been in before.

She tried to swim away but kept bumping into glass walls. She was in a fish tank.

Meg looked at a treasure chest which opened and started bubbling.

A yellow fish appeared yelling "Bubbles! Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles, bubbles! My bubbles!"

"He likes bubbles" said a pink starfish.

Meg was so afraid, she swam away and tried to hide.

She was found by a brown pufferfish, the yellow fish, a skinny purple and yellow fish, and a blue fish with white stripes.

"Slow down, sweetheart. Nothing to worry about" said Bloat, the pufferfish.

"Oh, she's scared to death" said Deb, the blue and white fish.

"I wanna go home. Do you know where my friends are?" Meg sobbed.

"Honey, your friends are probably back at the pet store" said Peach, the starfish.

"Pet store?" 

"Yeah, you know, like, uh... I'm from Bob's Fish Mart" said Bloat.

"Pet Palace" said Gurgle, the skinny fish.

"Fish-O-Rama" said Bubbles, the yellow fish.

"Mail order" said Deb.

"E-Bay" said Peach.

"So which one is it?" said Gurgle.

"I was taken from the ocean, but..." Meg began.

"Ah the ocean. THE OCEAN?! Aaagh! She hasn't been decontaminated yet! Jacques! Clean her!" Gurgle shouted.

A shrimp named Jacques cleaned Meg up and said "Voila. She is clean" 

"But I'm not a fish" Meg said.

"We see. You're a mermaid" said Bloat.

"Now. The big blue. What's it like?" said Bubbles.

"Uh... big and blue?" Meg said.

"I knew it" said Bubbles.

"But, you guys, I'm not actually a mermaid. If I had my legs, you'd know it" Meg said.

"Legs? So you're human?" said Bubbles.

"Yeah. I don't know how, but there was this blast and it turned me into a mermaid. I was taken off a coral reef by a scuba diver and now, here I am" said Meg.

"Oh, that scuba diver was the dentist that works here" said Bloat.

"So I'm in a dentist's office?!" Meg shouted.

"Whoa. Loosen up, kid" said Gurgle.

Suddenly, a pelican showed his face in the window.

"Hey, Nigel" said Peach.

"Am I late" said the pelican.

Nigel then noticed Meg and said "Hello. Who's this?" 

"New kid" said Deb.

"The dentist took her off the reef" said Gurgle.

"An outie. Nice to meet ya. Sorry if I ever took a snap at you. Fish, or in this case, mermaids, gotta swim, birds gotta eat" said Nigel.

Just then, the dentist shooed Nigel away and showed Meg a portrait of a little girl with braces.

He told her that this girl was gonna be Meg's "new mummy".

"Oh. Darla" said Bloat.

"What? Is she bad?" said Meg.

"She never stops shaking the bag. She's a fish killer" said Gurgle.

"I can't go with her! I have to get back to my friends!" Meg sobbed.

She tried to escape, but a tube sucked her up. She was stuck.

The fish tried to help her up, but...

"Nobody touch her!" said a deep voice.

A black and white fish showed his face and swam towards Meg.

"Can you help me?" Meg said.

"No. You get yourself in there you can get yourself out" said the fish.

"Gill..." said Deb.

"I just wanna see her do it, okay? Calm down. Now, alternate wiggling your tail" said the black and white fish whose name turned out to be Gill.

"I can't. I've never had a tail before" Meg said.

"Never stopped me" said Gill. 

Gill showed Meg his other side on which he had a damaged fin and a bunch of scars.

"Just think about what you need to do" he said.

Meg used all her muscle to wiggle out of the tube and it worked.

"Wow. She was taken from the ocean. Just like you, Gill. I've seen that look. What are you thinking?" said Peach.

"I'm thinking tonight we give this girl a proper reception" said Gill.

"So, honey, ya got a name or what?" said Bloat.

"Meg. I'm Meg" said Meg.

Wow. Looks like Meg's made some friends.
