Just before this chapter in chapter 38, a bit of a circus happened in the life of Judah, one of Israel's sons. He married a wife named Hirah daughter of Shua, and gave birth to three sons, Er, Onan and Shelah. When Er was all grown up, he was given a wife, Tamar, by his father. Before he could have any child though, he was slain by the Lord because the Lord found Er to be a wicked man. Onan was then told to be with his sister-in-law but when he went into her he spilled his semen on the ground because he knew the child wouldn't be his and The Lord killed him for that.
Because Shelah was a bit too young to marry Tamar, she was told to wait I  her father's house until he would be old enough. Later on, Hirah died, leaving Judah a widow. One day, as he was on his way, Tamar was told that Shelah had grown up but wasn't given to her yet, so she dressed up as a harlot and when Judah saw her, he didn't recognize her. He slept with her and she told somethings from him in substitution for her payment. When Tamar was said to be with child, it was ordered that she should be killed, but when she revealed Judah's possessions, she was allowed to bear the children.
During her child birth was the story we've been told about the twins that one put out his hand first and it was tied with a red rope, indicating he was the first. His twin brother then pulled him back in and came out first. Serah and Perez respectively.

Chapter 39

"Pst, hey Mallory" a female servant whispered to another. Mallory turned towards her and rolled her eyes.

"What do you want again Stephanie? " she continued to knead the dough in front of her " you know we need to hurry up " Stephanie made a silly face at her and continued to knead hers too.

"I heard a little rumour about the overseer " Mallory stopped what she was doing and slyly smiled at her fellow worker.

"Joseph?" Stephanie smirked knowing she had got her attention.

"Yes, I heard he was once a servant just a couple of years ago"

"Yeah " Mallory triumphantly said.

"How could he do that..." by now, the dough in front of them was completely forgotten, "... to get to such a level so fast is crazy" Mallory laughed a little.

"You're new so it may seem that way, but I can clearly remember when Joseph was with us..." she turned back to continue kneading her dough "... the kitchen was always lively and the food always came out perfect. It was no wonder when he was ordained the overseer "

"Wow" suddenly the doors to the kitchen flew open and Stephanie immediately placed her hands on the dough again.

A tall good looking young man walked in and all the servants stood at attention in front of him.

"I trust everything is going smoothly? " he calmly said.

"Yes sir" they chorused and he nodded at the head servant.

"I trust you" he said to her and walked out "

"Hmmm, he gets more handsome by the day" Stephanie sighed.

"No argument on that" they both laughed but were immediately silenced by the head servant.

Joseph strolled down the halls to the next station he had to check, only to see Potiphar's wife heading his way. He cleared his throat, getting ready to greet her and silently hoping it would end there.

"My Lady " he said bowing down. She looked than at him, her tall slender figure towering over him. She smiled mischievously and moved closer to him.

"Joseph " she said placing her hand on his shoulder. He stylishly bowed again so she would have to remove her hand, and began to walk away.

"Wait" she said, with an air of authority and Joseph sighed to himself. She curled her fingers, motioning for him to come closer.

"I'm still waiting for you to change your  mind" she ran her fingers down his chest and squinted her alluring brown eyes at him, daring him to refuse.

"With all due respect my Lady..." he stepped back and bowed his head at her " ... I've said this before... I'm terribly sorry, my master has not withheld anything from me except you. I cannot offend my master, neither would I sin against my God"

She frowned at him and curled her fingers into a fist.
"I will have what I want" she straightened up and walked away "one way or another."

Joseph quickly went about his duties, he had to hurry up this time. His master had gone and there were hardly any servants around. He had to be quick before Potiphar's wife could notice him.

He went about, strictly avoiding areas she could be.
"Joseph " he jumped back in shock, she had appeared out of nowhere, like it had been planned.

"M...my Lady" he stuttered. She placed her hand on his shoulder again, with the same daring look " I won't..."

"Shut up" she snapped " your master is not around, and I won't say anything " he shook his head and tried to talk again " shut up!, what will it take huh? I'm young, beautiful and noble, men would do anything to have me" she grabbed his shirt "so why won't you "

He could see she was angry and just knew he couldn't use words to get away this time. He tried to walk away but she held his shirt more firmly.

"I won't let you go until you lie with me" he tried to run away again but she only tightened her grip on him, pulling him back. He struggled against her, just noticing how much energy she had as she kept on pulling he back.

With nothing left to do, he slipped off his shirt and ran away. She tried running after him but he was too fast. With anger, she threw his shirt down to the ground; she then took a closer look at it and smirked as an idea formed in her mind.

As soon as her husband came back, she accused Joseph of trying to rape her, showing him his shirt as evidence. Potiphar, filled with rage had Joseph arrested, but God still abided with Joseph, even in jail and made the jail keeper trust him.
