Chapter 29

Jacob looked ahead and saw a well with men and their flock surrounding it. He watched as they watered their flock and walked towards them.

"Were do you come from?" he asked one of the first men he saw.
The man turned to him and balanced his long stick on his shoulder.

"Haran" he stiffly said, wondering why he asked. Jacob sighed knowing that was were his mum's brother lived.

"Do you by any chance know Laban, the son of Nahor?" The man seemed to relax understanding he must not be a stranger.

"Yes, we all do" he said, spreading his arms out at the men around him.

"Oh good. He is well, isn't he?" Laban cautiously asked, wondering if his questions were a bother.

One of the men behind the one he was talking with sighed and answered

"Yes he is, his daughter is coming with his sheep soon" and just as the last word escaped from his lips, Rachel appeared behind Jacob, leading her sheep. "There she is now"

Jacob turned back and saw her. He tried to keep his jaw from hitting the floor as she walked towards the well behind him.

Even leading the sheep, she still managed to look graceful with it. Her long hair was tied up, perfectly revealing her cute round face. Her skin glowed and she looked full of energy. It was obvious he was in a trance.

He immediately offered to water her sheep once she came close enough and she smiled.

"Thank you sir, but I don't want to bother you" Jacob shook his head with a large smile plastered on his face.

"No, it's my pleasure "

"If you insist then" she handed him her sheep and he watered every one of them.

"Thank you" she said, smiling up at him as he stretched out his shoulders.

"Don't mention it" he said, walking towards her. "So, do you come here every day?"

"Once every two days actually "

"Well then, I guess I'm lucky" they both laughed at this. " this is something you like to do right?"

"I guess" she shrugged "it beats staying cooped up at home like my sister does"

"Nice, I like that" he said staring into her eyes and without notice, bent down and kissed her.

"I'm sorry" she immediately said and as she broke off from the kiss, her face completely red.

"It's okay" he smiled "I'm Rebekah's son, the sister of your father, Laban. My name is Jacob and you must be Rachel"

She frowned at him in confusion.

"Yes, I'm sorry" she said backing away from him, " let me inform my dad" without an answer she ran away to meet Laban.

"Oh my son" Laban said, hugging Jacob. Rachel and her sister Leah were at the doorway, whispering to each other about the handsome man with their dad.

"It's nice to see you too uncle " he said, using the corner of his eyes to look at a giggling Rachel.

"What brings you here?" He said, pulling Jacob out of the hug.

"I've come to work for you" Laban frowned at him but realized the seriousness in his nephew's eyes.

"You are welcome to my son, but you surely can't work for nothing, what do you hope to gain if you work for me?"

"I want Rachel to be my wife." Laban looked away in thought, wondering what he should do.
" I will work seven years, if you would allow me." He firmly said.

"Okay then, work for me for seven years, and I will give you my daughter "

"Thank you" he said, relieved " I will"

"Uncle!" Jacob said, barging into the spacious room Laban was in. Laban waved his hands, ordering his servants to leave the room as Jacob's raged eyes stayed fixed on him.

"What is it?"

"Why have you done this to me. I told you I would work for you for seven years because of Rebekah, so why did I wake up with Leah this morning? "

Laban sighed as he stood up from his chair to face his nephew.

"You've worked well my son, but it is a taboo for the younger to get married before the older in this land, it had to be done" he calmly said.

Jacob fell on his knees and pulled at his hair "so I won't have Rachel? "

Laban walked towards him and placed his hand on the other's shoulder.

"Work for me for another seven years and I promise to give you Rachel" Jacob looked back up at his Uncle, frowning.

So I have to work for another seven years? He thought, then he remembered his brother which he left years back taking his blessings with him. This must be one of my punishments

"Okay"

After another seven years, he was given Rachel. It's no doubt that he loved her more than Leah. But because of this, God shut her womb and Leah gave Jacob three sons while Racheal had none.
