When Zhan drove from the dealer's yard in his new used car, he felt great. At last he was no longer dependent on the buses and their travel times and could finally drive to wherever and whenever he wanted.
With this feeling of elation, he drove to his parents, to whom he owed a visit long ago. When he arrived there, he rang the doorbell, his father opened the door, looked past Zhan and said as a greeting: "Ah, I see you bought yourself a new car. But you still don't have a new girlfriend." Zhan rolled his eyes, couldn't he say hello normally at least once?
His mother reacted similarly and asked him: "How often do you come to visit us alone? When will you find a wife and get married?" Zhan was so tired of it that his parents didn't even care how he was doing. He already regretted that he had driven to them. His feeling of elation had been turned into a state of deep emotion.
At the latest when his mother said again: "Your ex-girlfriend is getting married soon and you can't even manage to at least go on dates and meet a new woman" Zhan's mood was completely in the basement.
Furiously, he replied, "I had a date last night."
"Oh yeah? And where's your date?" His father asked.
"Working." Zhan said.
"So when are we going to meet her?"
Zhan thought about what to say next, and since they spoiled his mood and he was angry, he said, "I don't know if I'm going to introduce you to HIM. I don't even know if HE wants to have a relationship with me."
His parents stared at him in shock and his father asked: "Are you kidding us? What do you mean him and he?"
"It means I had a date with a young man. Six years younger than me. Really handsome, intelligent and very talented. Oh, and he's a good kisser too." Zhan knew he was just going too far, but once he started, he couldn't stop.
"If you're serious about this, you're not our son anymore!" Said his mother.
"Mom, I met someone and I'm very attracted to this person. I've never felt this way before about him. I can't tell if it's love. But it feels damned like it. I feel very comfortable with him and that should be the most important thing for you. That I feel comfortable and happy."
"Yes, with a woman and not with a guy. Do you really think we're gonna stand by and watch our son run off to his doom? If you want to be with that man, go ahead, but then you're dead for us." Said his father and even sent Zhan out the door.
He expected his parents would react that way, but he hoped they would react differently. It hurt him very much and he knew they wouldn't forgive him that quickly, even if he didn't get together with Yibo.
To distract himself a little more, Zhan continued to drive around for a while. In between he stopped to get something to eat and then drove on, always waiting for Yibo to call him back.
It was already after 9 pm when he came home in the evening, his old broken car was meanwhile picked up by the car dealer, who took it off Zhan's hands and made Zhan pay a little less for his new car.
Since he knows that Yibo often has to deal with his appointments until late in the evening, Zhan waited another hour before he tried to reach Yibo again. When the call was answered, however, it was not Yibo but a woman who told Zhan that she is Yibo's girlfriend and has been since a year. She had returned from Hong Kong today and had spent the day with Yibo. "He is taking a shower right now and then we want to go to bed and celebrate our reunion. You understand." She said. That was when Zhan sat down on the floor in his apartment.
"Okay, well, have fun." He said and hung up.
Speechless, confused and also angry, Zhan sat on the floor in his living room and stared at the cell phone. When it suddenly rang after a few minutes and he read Yibo's name, he accepted the call and yelled into the cell phone: "Don't you dare ever call me again!" Then he hung up immediately.
Yibo still tried several times and even wrote messages to Zhan, which he deleted all unread. And finally Zhan blocked Yibo's cell phone number. After that it was quiet and Zhan thought about what to do now.
Zhan suspected that if Yibo didn't reach him, he might even show up at the company and want to talk to Zhan. But Zhan wanted to prevent that. Fortunately, it occurred to him that Yu Bin once told him that Yibo Online's appointment calendar was available. So he searched for it on the Internet and found out that Yibo would be in Shanghai on Thursday and Friday. So Zhan just had to come up with something for Wednesday in case Yibo came to the company.
Now he hadn't had a day off for creative development for a long time, Zhan thought and wrote to his boss: "Good evening boss, sorry to disturb you so late. Just wanted to ask if I could take the day off tomorrow? I need a day off for creative development."
A few minutes later he already received an answer: "Wasn't yesterday and today enough? But that's okay, I understand. I'll expect you back in the office on Thursday." Zhan was thrilled. And he even had an idea what he could do tomorrow.
Zhan hasn't been out in nature for a long time. Although the season and the weather was not ideal, it had never bothered him. He could dress himself appropriately. And maybe he would go back to the cave where he and Bai Shu used to go when they were still at university and had time for it.
On the other hand, Zhan could spend the day at home in the warmth of his home. Nice in bed and with a book, he could just relax and do nothing.
The decision what to do was made in the morning and it wasn't hard for Zhan after he looked out the window and it was raining heavily outside. That meant he went to shower, got dressed and ran to the supermarket across the street where he bought some snacks, some prepared meals and some sweets. Then he ran back home, slipped into his comfortable clothes, threw the snacks and candy on his bed, got a book and sat down in his bed under his blanket and started reading.
Zhan found the book "Devilish Genius by Catherine Jinks" very exciting and he only put it out of his hand when he needed to go to the bathroom or when he was making one of his ready-made meals. It was even easy for him not to think about Yibo when he read. Just the way he had intended.
That's how Zhan spent his day off, and in the evening he was amazed that he really managed to read through this Big Book. If he had more days off, he would certainly have read the other two parts as well. But he will probably have to wait with that.
When he had cleaned up his bed and even changed the sheets, he went to wash himself in the bathroom, put on his sleeping clothes, set his alarm clock and lay down in his bed. As he lay there in the dark, he wondered if he should unblock Yibo's cell phone number and maybe give him a chance to explain himself.
But then he thought about his girlfriend again and immediately got angry again. So he left everything as it was and maybe he would soon be able to forget about Yibo. Or at least banish it from his heart.
A/N: I know I wrote that this book is no drama. Nor should it be. Even if this chapter is drama. The explanation will follow in the next chapter. So relax, be open to what is coming and try to come into the next chapter without judgment. Oh yes, because of Zhan's parents, we'll come back to that in a later chapter.
