As we are making our way back down the path all my senses heighten all of a sudden after that long period of absolute silence.
I can hear the wind humming harshly, the leaves of the trees crashing against each other, the crickets in the grass chirping loudly, and I can distinctly hear the deep, intense and uneven breaths of Kai, Jade and Brooke combined.
My head starts spinning and I start to feel faint, I take a few deep breaths and keep making my way to the end of the path.
As we are almost in a run type of pace towards our exit, a tree branch falls right in front of us, Kai stops in his tracks and Jade pulls me back into her so the branch doesn't make contact with us.
Brooke almost falls over but luckily she grabs onto Kai's shirt to gain stability.
I grab Jade's hand and squeeze it tight, she squeezes my hand back to reassure me.
We lock eyes, I can tell she's trying to stay calm for the sake of the group.
We all stand in silence, my head starts pounding in pain, the dizziness gets worse and I shut my eyes tight trying to focus on my forehead.
I let go of Jade's hand and fall to the floor, I land on my knees, my breathing is heavy, I start sweating all over yet I feel freezing cold.
"Lily, are you okay?!??" Jade calls out to me as she squats down in front of me.
"Come on we have to get back to camp" she tries to get me to stand up but has no luck.
"Kai! Help me over here!" I feel Jade and Kai lift me up off the dirt floor and they drape my arms around their necks and help me walk .
I groggily open my eyes, I try to keep them as wide as possible and try to help them help me walk, but my body feels so weak and fragile.
"Brooke climb over the tree branch, we will help Lily get over, you have to be ready to help hold her up okay?" Jade is talking but I can't properly focus on her words.
I hear lots of movement and chaos around me from Jade, Kai and Brooke, I hear Brooke jump over the branch, she vibrates the floor a little bit as she lands on the other side of the log.
I feel my body being lifted and I fall into someone's arms.
"Lily don't worry, you're going to be okay" I hear someone say muffled.
All my senses start to close and stop, my vision goes blurry, my hearing is muffled and my sense of touch starts to numb.
I start hearing the same whispers as I did earlier when I was looking out over the river still unable to comprehend what was being said.
Everything goes black, I don't know where I was or what was happening, all I knew was that I was with my friends.
After awhile my mind went foggy and my thoughts slowly started to disappear... all my thoughts... gone... there was... nothing... nothing but darkness.
.....
When we reached the end of the dirt path that lead to our camp I was gasping for air and all my senses started to come back, my vision was no longer blurry, I could feel the tight grip Brooke and Jade had on my waist holding me up, I could feel the weight of my arms hanging around their necks, I can hear them grunting and breathing, I gain control over my legs again and start to walk so Jade and Brooke don't have to force me to.
When we reached the top of the first hill we sat down so Jade and Brooke could catch their breaths.
"Wh-what just hap-happened?" I ask very confused.
Jade and Brooke look at me with sad eyes.
"We-we have no idea Lily, you just fell onto the floor and when we picked you up to help you.... you stop moving and breathing.." Jade said getting all teary.
"I stopped breathing?"
"Yeah..." Jade started to cry.
I quickly threw my arms around her neck and hugged her, I tightly squeezed her showing her that I was okay, that she didn't have to worry about me anymore, that I was breathing.
"I...thought.... we had.... lost" Jade said through her tears.
"I know, I know, but I'm okay, look at me" I pull away out of the hug and look deeply into Jade's eyes and smile.
"I'm right here, I'm okay" I pull her back in for another short hug.
Once I let go I look over to Kai who is caressing Brooke's back as she cries into his shoulder.
I walk over to Brooke and pull her out of Kai's embrace, I turn her puffy face and red teared eyes to look at me.
She starts to cry harder, she wraps her arms around my waist and squeezes tightly.
We stay like that for a few minutes, after awhile everyone had calmed down and stopped crying and we continued walking back to our camp.
I was holding Jade's and Brooke's hands, Kai was walking in front of us while looking at his phone looking at all the photos we had taken.
"You really scared us you know..." Jade blurted out.
"I'm sorry you guys, I have no idea what happened or what came over me..." my body went slightly tense.
"It's okay, we're just glad that you're safe now" Jade squeezed my hand tighter, making my body relax and calm down a bit.
We made it back to camp safe and sound, we all went and sat under the gazebo.
"Hey um, you might want to look at this" Kai said as he sat down.
We all walked over to him and stood behind him, he started flicking through the photos until we all noticed something in the background of some of the photos.
"What or who is that?" I ask.
"I have no idea" Kai replies.
"Hold on let me have a look at those" Jade takes Kai's phone and starts analysing the photos.
"That's odd" she exclaims.
"This thing is only in the background of the photos Lily had taken of us..." she states as she looks up over to me with a very worried expression on her face.
"Thing?" We all ask in unison.
