Chapter 16- Silent Tonight

I slipped the note into Nico's locker.

Will you come to the party and dance with me?

I don't think anyone would follow a low-effort note like that. But Nico is a bit childish, so she'll recognize that the note came from someone that knows her well. 

I hate that I can no longer experience Halloween the same anymore. I hate that people will discriminate against you and gossip about you if you show the slightest sign of having a kiddy attitude.

There is more to Halloween than costumes or candy, and that is memories. So I should stop focusing on the past and focus on now instead. All I have to do is be forgiven by Nico. She probably wants me to forgive her because of her ignoring me, but I can't deny that I felt like it would be too awkward to talk to her as well.

If I was able to reunite with Nico, then Sara would relinquish her spot in Muse. She said that she felt overwhelmed by the amount of people and that she would prefer to be in a smaller friend group. That's why I introduced her to Jason, and apparently, they've been talking nonstop.

Everyone can have a happy ending, it only depends on if Nico will still care about me or not.

Two hours before the dance, I was at Maki's house.

"It looks good on you, Y/N."

"Are you sure your family is fine lending me this suit?"

"Yeah, no problem."

"You know, I would have never expected you to help me out."

She crossed her arms and pouted.

"Why is that?"

"No offense, you just seemed like the kind of person to not help me."

"I guess I do give off a mean aura, should I change it?"

"What do you mean?"

"I'm asking you if I should smile a lot more, dummy."

"Sure."

Then she smiled at me.

It was the dance before I knew it.

The lights turned on. I could see Nico wander around aimlessly in an angel costume, looking for whoever invited her to the dance. It was a beautiful white dress with wings attached to it. Only a single row of people separated both of us. I was looking over their shoulders. This is the closest distance I could get to her without her noticing.

I remembered something I had discussed with Rin on Monday, when the audititions for the person in charge of audio.

"Hey Rin, do you want Nico back in Muse?"

"Of course! Why wouldn't I?"

"Alright, then sign up for DJ."

"Why?"

"Because you're energetic. And I'll get Muse to make a song for you to play."

"You sure it'll work?"

"Of course."

I looked at Rin, who was behind a glass pane in the wall. I gave a thumbs up.

Apparently it was called Silent Tonight. Eli and Maki were originally planning to create it with Nico, but she had already left by then. They tried it with Sara, and I guess that was the breaking point for her before she grew tired of them.
