"Dina, can I tell you something?" You asked, fiddling with your fingers. She looked over at you and smiled, nodding as she scooted her chair closer to the table you both sat at.
"Promise me you won't tell anyone...at least not until I say you can," You said, giving your best friend a stern look.
"I promise, y/n. Whatever it is, you can tell me," She reassured, resting her head on her open palm.
You sighed, trying to find the best way to tell her, and not sound like you had feelings for her. You shook off the worry, telling yourself that she was your friend. You had been through thick and thin together.
"Alright...um, I like girls." You stated, looking her dead in the eye. A silence rested over the two of you as she processed the words. You watched her, looking for any sign of a negative reaction, instead, she only smiled and said, "I'm so happy for you! Has any lucky girl caught your eye?"
With those words, your nervousness faded, a bright smile spreading on your face. You nodded eagerly, thankful that you can finally talk about romance with your friend, especially because all the times she ever asked you, you had to come up with excuses about some guy you liked.
"Well, there actually is one girl. She's the one who made me realize I like girls in the first place," You said, the nerves beginning to form butterflies in your stomach.
"Who? Do I know her? Wait, what does she look like?" Dina interrogated, bombarding you with questions.
You laughed nervously. She could keep a secret, right?
"You do know her actually. She's one of our best friends," You whispered the last part.
"One of our best friends, hmm? The only other friend that's a girl that we share is...oh my god, you like Ellie?!" Dina said, her voice raising due to excitement. You shushed her, telling her that there could be someone listening to your conversation.
"Oh stop, there's only a bunch of adults around us, no Ellie. Plus, I'm like eighty percent sure she likes you too." Dina chuckled.
"What about me?" A familiar voice asked, making your eyes widen in shock. Dina's smile got impossibly wider as Ellie walked up to the table you both sat at.
"Um, nothing. We never said your name," You said, smiling nervously, not meeting her eyes.
She hummed in response and turned to Dina, giving her a look. Dina laughed and got up. "Take my seat, I've got to go help Jesse and his parents with something.
You gave Dina a soft glare as she gave you a thumbs-up behind Ellie's back, mouthing good luck.
Scoffing, you looked back at Ellie, who gave you a suspicious smile.
"What?" You asked, cocking your head to the side.
"You have something to tell me, I can sense it," Ellie said.
You looked down at the table, debating whether or not you wanted to voice your feelings for her. She's lesbian, so you really didn't have to fear her saying she wasn't into your 'type'. Taking a deep breath, you looked back up at her. "I do have something to tell you, but I really don't want to do it in this crowded diner."
She narrowed her eyes in confusion as she slowly got up, you mimicked her actions, following her outside.
She shut the door behind you. "Can you tell me here, or would you rather talk somewhere more secluded?"
As there weren't many people around, you nodded your head, giving her a small yes, we can talk here. She braced her forearms on the railing. "So, what's on your mind?"
"Ellie...I think I'm in love with you, and I'm terrified." You said bluntly, not giving yourself any time to let fear hold you back.
Her head whipped in your direction, mouth falling agape as she looked at you.
"Ever since you showed up in Jackson, I have had this weird feeling. The feeling of butterflies and nervousness. The want to press my lips against yours. And that day, when we were in my bedroom, and you had just come back from the hospital and Joel had told you the truth about what went down in that hospital...I wanted to kiss you so badly. When you told me about your...situation, I had never felt closer to you. I felt like I was someone special in your life. I think that was the moment I realized I was in love with you. The moment I realized I like girls." You finished, staring down at your hands, grasping the railing so hard your knuckles turned white.
She didn't say a word, she only stared at you, eyes flickering over your turned face.
"Can you...can you say something? Please?" You whispered, finally looking up and meeting her green eyes.
She stayed quiet, but moved up, filling the space between your two bodies. Your breath hitched, as you looked at her, realizing the close proximity. Heat flared on your cheeks as you went to look away, only for Ellie to place a hand on your chin, forcing you to look at her. She leaned in, closing the gap between you two, fitting her lips with yours. You tensed, eyes wide at the movement. But you soon relaxed into the kiss, relaxing into her touch. You relished the moment, closing your eyes as you pulled her closer.
[ a/n: this is poorly written tbh and i'm sorry😣. also this is sorta similar to my story, ellie made me realize that i like girls, and for that i think she'll always be incredibly special to me:) ]
