The song thrummed in your ears as you hummed to yourself. People swayed with each other all around you, and the sight of everyone with a partner made your heart clench. I miss Ellie, you thought to yourself.

As the words flashed across your mind, you scolded yourself instantly for letting you think those three words. She left you, you remind yourself, she doesn't love you anymore, y/n.

Every time you had to recall those facts, it only made you long for her touch more. You missed her. Desperately at that, but you knew the hard truth.

Ellie walked into the crowded living room, a blank expression on her face as she moved. You straightened almost simultaneously. It had been a little more than a month since the two of you had broken off, and it was the hardest month you've ever had to go through.

Seemingly bored, Ellie leaned against the wall, her green eyes scanning the room, looking for something. Or, rather, someone.

Ellie hadn't noticed you were in the room, but she had heard - courtesy of Dina - that you would be at the party. She had hoped to find you, to explain that breaking up with you was the biggest mistake of her life. That she needed you. But as she gazed over the room, finally finding you standing next to an oak bookshelf, any confidence of walking up to you completely vanished. She had screwed up big time, she realized.

The song had changed to something more romantic, upbeat, but emotional and longing. You bobbed your head to the beat, faltering slightly when you noticed Ellie walking up to you.

What could she possibly have to say now?

Hands a sweating mess, Ellie forced her legs to move across the room, to come face to face with you. Her brain was running with all the things she was going to tell you, to beg you to understand. But when she was finally two feet apart from you, and your mouth turned into a frown, all thoughts cleared from her mind in an instant.

"Um, can I help you?" You asked sourly, not wanting Ellie to get the chance to rub salt in the wound.

She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. You thought she looked like a lost puppy.

You turned to walk away, yelling internally at yourself for letting your ex this close to you, when a hand closed on your wrist, making you snap your head up to the owner of the hand.

"I made a mistake," Ellie whispered, her eyes widening with a feeling you couldn't place. "Take me back. Please."

You balked at her words. "You said you didn't love me anymore."

"I know I did, but that was a lie," She sounded unsure, nervous.

She released her grip and you crossed your arms, the sound of the party drowned out by your conversation. "It was a lie? A lie to me or yourself?"

"To both of us. I shouldn't have let you go. I thought I had fallen for Dina, but I was wrong, y/n. It doesn't feel the same with her. Not when it's you I love," Ellie explained.

Your eyebrows furrowed together. "So, you're saying I'm a backup choice? Cause that's what this is sounding like, Ellie."

She shook her head frantically, grabbing your hand once again. "Please. Let me prove it to you. Take me back. Please. Let me show you how much you mean to me."

Head tilting to the side, you looked at her - really looked at her. She had bags under her eyes, a sign of little sleep. She also had slightly disheveled hair, almost like she was in a rush to get here and talk to you. Based on her current state, you thought that maybe she was being truthful. Maybe she really did love you, and maybe, just maybe, she was willing to go to the ends of the earth and back if it meant to have you as her girlfriend again.

"One week. I'll let you have one week to prove yourself to me. To show me that it was an error you're willing to fix."
