a/n: small note that you and ellie are 15 and are in her new 'house' in jackson :) 

A laugh vibrated in your chest at Ellie's statement. "You didn't know how to whistle?! But you were fourteen, El!"

"It's not my fault, y/n! I just didn't understand the physics behind puckering your lips and then suddenly a tune just comes out of your mouth," Ellie said with a pout.

You continued to giggle quietly to yourself as a smile finally showed up on her face.

"Now, let's change the subject. Truth or dare, y/n?" Ellie asked, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she looked at you.

You groaned a little before answering her question. "Truth,"

"Do you like anyone? If so, who?" Ellie said quickly.

"One, you're only allowed to ask a single question, El. And two, I actually do like someone, but I'm not telling you who," You answered.

A whine escaped Ellie's lips. "But why? I'll tell you my crush if you tell me yours, y/n."

You pretended to think for a moment, wanting to keep Ellie on her toes. "Fine. But no judging. And promise that no matter who I like, it won't change anything between us, 'kay?"

"Promise," Ellie declared, nodding her head quickly.

"Alright, on the count of three...one, two, three!"

As you opened your mouth, Ellie mirrored your actions, and one word fell from both of your lips.

"You."

The short sentence hung in the air for a moment before you both began to register the full weight of the single word.

"Me?! Really?!" Ellie spoke first, scooting closer to your shocked figure.

You began nodding eagerly, stuttering over your words as you met her sparkly green eyes. "Yeah! I've...I've had a crush on you for a while now,"

"No way, me too!" Ellie exclaimed excitedly.

"What-what does this mean, then? What do we do?" You asked.

"Well, assuming Jackson is similar to the boarding school we went to, I guess we date? So, then you're my girlfriend and I'm yours," Ellie said, hand on her chin as she thought.

"That makes sense," You replied, a grin growing on your face. "I just can't believe we like each other, we've been friends since forever."

"I know," Ellie agreed. "But hey, we can both figure the whole girlfriend thing out together, right?"

Your smile grew wider.

"Yeah. Together."
