Zhan was quite relieved when Percy arrived on the other side of the river bank. He should get firework talismans to celebrate, that is, until Hazel turned around.
Her expression was relief, then to horror. "Frank!" Percy and him turned.
Frank was halfway across the river when the gorgons caught him. They swooped out of the sky and grabbed him by either arm. He screamed in pain as the claws dug into his skin.
The sentries yelled, but he and Percy knew they couldn't get a clear shot. They'd end up killing Frank. The other kids drew their swords and got ready to charge into the water, but they'd be too late. There was only one way.
He and Percy locked eyes at each other, and knew what to do. Percy thrust out his hands. The Tiber obeyed his will, and the river surged. Whirlpools formed in either side of Frank.
It create enough distraction for Zhan to get a close kill on the gorgons. Giant watery hands erupted to the stream, copying Percy's movements. The giant hands grabbed the half-sliced gorgons, who dropped Frank in surprise.
Zhan caught Frank immediately, but grunted of how heavy he was, and helped him stand on the ground. Frank gaped his mouth open at Zhan, and he gave him that flashy smile of his at him.
Zhan heard the other kids helping and backing away, but Percy stayed focus on his task. He made a smashing gesture with his fists, and the giant hands plunged the gorgons into the River. The monsters hit bottom, and broke into dust.
Glittering clouds of the monsters essence struggled to re-form, but the river pulled them apart like a blender. Soon every trace of the gorgons was swept downstream. The whirlpools vanished, and the current returned to normal.Zhan whistled as he walked to Percy, who stood at the riverbank as if he'd been exposed. "Dude, that was really cool. But,"
Percy glared at him. "But what, Zhan?" His tone as quite snappy.
Zhan raised his hands up, along with Suibian. "Chill, bro. Did you really have to show off like that?"
Zhan could tell Percy was fuming. It was quite funny to watch smoke coming out of his ears. "Show off?! What would have happened if I didn't smash them to bits at the river? All of us would be dead by now!" Percy snapped harshly. Though, he knew Percy was just tired of running for the last few days.
Zhan playfully punched him in the arm. "Percy, relax. We're here now, so don't worry about how you'll sleep through the night." Percy started to calm down a little bit. "Oh, right. You okay? That must have took a tremendous power for you to take."
He nodded weakly. Zhan cursed in his head. If there was such a thing as recovery talismans, he can help Percy.
Zhan had now realized how quiet the other kids had become.Everyone we're staring at them. Only the old lady June looked unfazed.
"Well, that was a lovely trip," She said. "Thank you Percy Jackson, for bringing to camp. And thank you, Xiao Zhan the cultivator."
One of the girls made a chocking sound. "Percy...Jackson?"
She sounded as if she recognize the name. Percy focused on her, hoping to see a familiar place. Zhan helped Pecry look at the girl who had just spoken. She was obviously a leader. She wore a regal purple cloak over her armor. Her chest was decorated with medals. She must have been Percy's age, with dark piercing eyes, and long black hair. Percy didn't recognize her, he lost uisbemmories after all, but the girl stared at his friend as if shed seen him in her nightmares.
June laughed with delight. "Oh, yes. You'll have such fun together!"
Then, just because the day hasn't been weird enough already, the old lady began to glow and change form. She grew until she was a shining, seven-foot-tall goddess in a blue dresß, with a cloak that looked like a goat's skin over her shoulders. Her face was stern and staley. In her hand was a staff topped off with a lotus flower.
Hazel, Frank, and Percy said together in unison. "Juno."
They fell to their knees, leaving Zhan the only one standing. He knew he should probably kneel too (U don't to kneel to him, Wei), but after the whole thing they've been through, and Percy almost got killed by carrying her, he didn't feel like showing much her that respect.
Zhan sheathed SuiBian, and turned to look at her. "Juno, huh?" He said, crossing his arms. "If we passed your test, can we have our memories, and our life back now?"
The goddess smiled. "In time, Xiao Zhan. if you both succeed here at camp. You've both done well today, which is a good start. Perhaps there's hope for you yet."
She turned to the other kids. "Romans, I bring the son of Neptune, and a cultivator from the ancient past. For months they've been slumbering, but know they're awake. They're fate is in your hands. The Feast of Fortune comes quickly, and Death must be unleashed if you are to stand any hope in the battle. Do not fail me!"
Juno simmered and disappeared. Zhan, and Percy looked Hazel and Frank for some kind of explanation, but they seemded just as confused as he was. Frank was holding something Zhan hadn't notice before---two small clay flasks with cork stoppers, like POTIONS, one in each hand, but he saw Frank slip them into his pockets. Frank gave him a look like: We'lltalk about it later.
The girl in the purple cloak stepped forward. She examined him, and Percy, but Zhan couldn't shale the feeling that this girl wanted to run Percy through with her dagger.
"So," She said coldly. "A son of Neptune, travels with a cultivator, who comes to us with the blessing of Juno."
"Look," Percy said. "My memory's a little fuzzy." She gripped her dagger. Zhan had to intervene.
"What he means is," Jeez, those piercing eyes give a him the creeps. "We lost our memories, and we dont know who you people are, except for Frank and Hazel. Do you know him, bu any chance?" Zhan pointed at Percy.
The girl hesitated. The grip on her dagger loosened a bit. "I am Reyna, praetor of the Twelfth Legion. And...no, I don't know him."
That last part was a lie. He could tell from her eyes. But he also understood that if he argued with her about it here, in front of her soldiers, she wouldn't appreciate it.
"Hazel," Said Reyna. "Bring them inside. I want to question them at the principia. Then we'll send them to Octavian. We must consult the augries before e decide what to do with them."
"What do you mean," Zhan asked suspiciously. "'Decide what to do with' me?"
Reyna's hand tightened on her dagger. Obviously she was not used to having her orders questioned. "Before we accept anyone to camp,,we must interrogate them and read their auguries. Juno said your fate us in our hands. We have to know whether the goddess has brought us a new recruit..."
Reyna studied Percy as if she found it doubtful.
"Or," She said more hopefully. "If she's brought us an enemy to kill."
Whoops! Looks like Percy and Zhan is about to get tested, again. Why is Reyna acting sobhostile to Percy? What do u guys think happend? Don't spoil it do those who have read the son of Neptune, please!!
