May be a short chapter, there will be something happening soon in this story. Please don't spoil it for the ones who haven't read the original story, guys.
---------------------------------------------------------
Xiao Zhan wasn't scared of ghosts, which was lucky. Half the people in the camp were dead.
Shimmering purple warriors stood outside the armory, polishing ehteral swords. Others hung out in front of the barracks. A ghostly boy chased a dog down the street making Zhan stiff in fear. At the stables, a big glowing red dude with the head of a wolf guarded a get of...Were those unicorns?
None of the campers paid the ghost attention, but as Percy's entourage walked By, with Reyna on the lead and him, Hazel and Frank by his side, all the spirits stopped what they were doing and stared at Percy and Zhan. A few looking angry, half of them looked scared. The little boy shrieked something like "Greggus! Yí Líng Lǎo Zǔ (come on guys, u know what it means, aka Yiling Patriarch)" and turned invisible.
Zhan looked at Percy, he knew he was feeling uncomfortable with the stares he was getting. Percy stayed between Hazel and Frank and tried to look inconspicuous.Zhan decided to ask a question. "Am I seeing things?" He asks. "Or are those----"
"Ghosts?" Hazel turned. She had starting eyes, like fourteen-karat gold. "They're Lares. House gods."
"House gods," Percy said. "Like...smaller than real gods, but larger than apartment gods?" Zhan let out a chuckle.
Percy stared at him. "What?"
"They're ancestral spirits," Frank explained. He'd removed his helmet, revealing a babyish face that didn't go along with his military haircut or his big burly frame. He looked like a toddler who'd taken steroids and joined the Marines.
"The Lares are kinda of like mascots," He continued. "Mostly they're harmless, but I've never seen them so agitated."
"They're staring at me," Percy said. "The ghosts kid called me Greggus, and he called u something too, Zhan. And my name isn't Greg."
"Yeah, he called me Yí Líng Lǎo Zǔ. I'm guessing it's Chinese for---" Zhan was about to say the meaning, but Frank beat him to it.
"Yiling Patriarch, I think?" Frank replied. Zhan stared at him, was he like him too? Frank caught his stare, and said. "What? I'm Chinese Canadian." Although Zhan didn't know anything about Canada, he knew what Chinese is. He nodded, and was quiet the whole walk.
He was wondering what Graecus meant, so he decided to ask Hazel."Hazel, what does Greggus mean?" He asks her.
"Graecus," Hazel said. "Once you've been here for a while, you'll start picking up Latin words. Demigod's have a natural sense for it. Graecus means Greek."
"Is that bad?" Percy asked.
Frank cleared his throat. "Maybe not. You've got that type of complexion, the dark hair and all. Maybe they think you're family is actually Greek. Is your family from their?"
"He doesn't know, basically we both form know." Zhan said
"Or maybe..." Frank hesitated.
"What?" Percy sounded tired.
"Probably nothing," Farnk said, though Zhan could tell there was a hint of worry. "Romans and Greek have an old rivalry. Sometimes Romans use graecus as an insult for someone who's an outsider---an enemy. I wouldn't worry about it."
He sounded pretty worried about it, which made Zhan's day perfect.
They stopped at the center of the camp, where two wide stone paved roads met at a T. A street sign labeled the road to the main gates as VIA PRAETORIA. The other road, cutting across the middle of camp, was labeled VIA PRINCIPALIS. Under those markets where hand painted signs like BERKELEY 5 MILES; NEW ROME 1 MILE; OLD ROME 7280 MILES; HADES 2310 MILES (pointing straight down); RENO 208 MILES, and CERTAIN DEATH: YOU ARE HERE!
For certain death, the place looked pretty clean and orderly. The buildings were freshly whitewashed, laid out in neat grids like the camps had been designed by a fussy math teacher. The barracks had shady porches, where campers lounged in hammocks or played cards and drank sodas. Each dorm had a different collection of banners out front displaying Roman numerals and various animals----eagle, bear, wolf, horse, and something that looked like a hamster.
Along the Via Principalis, rows of shops advertised food, armor, weapons, coffee, gladiator equipment , and toga rentals.
A chariot dealership had a big advertisement out front: CAESAR XLS W/ANTILOCK BRAKES, NO DENARII DOWN!At one corner of the crossroadsstood the most impressive build8ng---a two story wedge of white marble with a columned portico like an old fashioned bank. Roman guards stood out front
Over the big doorway hung a big purple banner with hold letters SPQR embroidered inside a laurel wreath."Your headquarters?" Percy asked.
Reyna faced him, her eyes cold and hostile. "Its called the primcipia."
She scanned the mood of curios campers who had followed them to the river. "Everyone back to your duties. I'll give you an update at the evening muster. Remeber, we have war games after dinner."
Its a short chapter, but please give me a break. I've been trying my best to update, but my brain sometimes doesn't work.
