“That’s my brother!” Tyler cried out, his words were mixed with pain and agony. He tried to run towards the paramedics that were pushing a stretcher towards an ambulance. He didn’t know if it was his brother for sure because a white sheet was covering the entire body. Tyler didn’t know what to do, but the world just seemed to have finally shut down before him. He was alone, for sure whether his brother was under the sheet or not, there was no way Heath would have made it through a large army. There was a large amount of cameras flashing all around, and the sirens of every single paramedic car pierced Tyler’s ears.
People forced their way through to get a look to another stretcher coming from the back of the burned house. As Tyler turned away from the first stretcher, he saw that the other one had another body. From where he stood, he could make out the fair hair on the head of the body that had some blood dried onto it. Mixture of disgust and pain hit Tyler once again. He quickly grabbed Lily and placed a hand over her eyes.
“Tyler, stop it!” Lily said with annoyance trying to push his hand away, “I can’t see!” However, Tyler grabbed her firmly and had his hand fixed over her eyes. He didn’t want her to see Heath’s body.
The stretcher drew nearer since Tyler was close to the ambulance trucks and he saw how broken his brother looked. The paramedics that all ran by his stretcher, had Heath’s shirt lifted all the way up to his neck, and Tyler saw all the bruises and blood that covered his brother’s torso. Heath’s face was covered in blood, bruises and dirt that Tyler couldn’t even see any details of his brother’s face. Then his eyes spotted a large gaping hole in Heath’s chest. Shock struck him and his grip on Lily loosened. He didn’t realize when she pushed his hand that was covering her eyes away, and before the paramedics covered the disturbing bullet hole someone snapped Tyler out of his distress.
“Is that Heath?!” Lily screamed all of the sudden. A cry escaped her mouth and she looked up at Tyler. “Is that Heath?!”
Tyler looked down at her and roughly picked her up. As fast as he could he looked around to spot familiar faces and Sam’s face was visible among the crowd. Tyler ran towards Heath’s friend and gave him Lily.
“What the-?!” Sam began once the little girl was shoved in his arms. Then when he realized who was the boy who that handed Lily to him he shouted, “Tyler come back here!”
Tyler, on the other hand, ignored him and ran back towards where his brother was being lifted into the ambulance. He saw a small tube was being pushed down Heath’s throat and several other devices that Tyler couldn’t even tell what they were. As he drew nearer firm grip grabbed him and held him back.
“Let go of me!” Tyler screamed and he punched the person directly in the face. However, the boy didn’t let go and instead, held Tyler’s arms tightly behind his back.
“Tyler, there’s nothing you can do!” The boy, whom Tyler recognized as Tony, yelled over the sirens and the crowd’s voices. “You’ll be just holding them back from getting Heath the help he needs!”
“The help?!” Tyler said struggling against the older boy’s grip, “What help are talking about?! Haven’t you seen Heath’s condition?! They won’t help him even if he’s still alive! They’ll execute him the next day or something! They might even throw him in jail and let him die in there!”
“They will give him medical attention, I swear!” Tony shouted angrily, “Stop acting so childish and go back and get your sister! What the hell were you thinking, letting a child see her own brother’s body like that?! She’s just a kid!”
Tyler’s knees gave away and he fell to the ground. He closed his eyes and hoped that the noises would go away, and when he opens his eyes, everything would be just a dream. He felt Tony’s hands let go but the noises were still there. He opened his eyes found himself still among the large crowd. One change was that the ambulance cars were gone and the crowd was slowly thinning. Slowly, Tyler bent over and covered his face with his hands.
