small things - the audreys

Later that evening, I take a ride-share to the address Hero texted me, watching the streets pass by through the window, taking me further into the city that I have ever been. The signs on the street get more colorful, the sidewalks more crowded and I get more nervous. When I went to Sean's party, I went with Priya and Jesse. But this was me alone with someone I only just met. The more I thought about it, the more tense I became and the memory of Hero's lips against mine didn't help. Ever since that happened, I couldn't help but wonder what has gotten into me. I gave someone who I barely knew anything about my first kiss, letting him closer than anyone before. I should regret it but truth is, I didn't. The way he was looking at me, those eyes that were so cold yet so comforting have haunted me ever since I first looked into them.
"We're here." My drivers voice pulls me out of my thoughts and I sit up straighter, looking around. We were parked on a dirt parking lot, almost in complete darkness and I scrunch my eyebrows. "Uh, are you sure?" I ask carefully and the guy turns his head to me with a shrug. "It's the adress." He says and I nod, reaching for the door and stepping out. I barely have time to close it before he drives off, leaving me standing in what looked like the middle of nowhere.
When I turn to get a better look at my surroundings, the faint sound of a beat could be heard, some kind of music. Licking my lips, I tighten the grip on my bag and follow the sound across the lot and around a corner, to find another parking lot, this one packed with beautiful cars and a lot of people laughing and dancing around and on top of the vehicles. I almost jump when a car speeds past me, doing donuts with music blasting from an open window. I quickly walk through the lot, taking in all the exotic cars, mesmerized. Engines roar as drivers lift hoods and compare their rigs. I stop to gawk at the vibrant life all around me.
"Looks like you're in the wrong place, sweetheart." A voice says beside me and I turn, seeing a boy off by himself, arms folded and leaning against a white motorcycle. He was tall, black hair and dark eyes, with a defined jaw. I look around me for a moment, thinking that he might not be talking to me. "You're lost, aren't you?" He speaks up again, looking directly at me. I give him a polite smile and a small nod.
"Maybe a little lost." I admit and he smiles back at me, his much more smug.
"You look like you're trying to impress in that getup. Searching fo somebody?" He says and I feel my face flush a little as he not so subtly looks me up and down. I had put on one of my favorite dresses, a green midi with puff sleeves and small white dots. Over it I had thrown on a simple jeans jacket and I actually felt good in that outfit. Well, until now. Inscecurity washed over me at his gaze.
"Maybe." I say quietly, suddenly just wanting to turn around and get away. Where is Hero?
"Uh oh. Sounds like you've fallen in with the wrong crowd." He says, that same smile still on his lips and I could feel myself now growing more angry at his words. What was that any of his business?
„Only since I started talking to you." I snap at him and the boy laughs, pushing himself away from his motorcycle and shoving his hands into the pockets of his biker leather jacket. "Look, are you just gonna stand there being a jerk, or can you just tell me what this place is?" I continue, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I can multitask." He says cooly, stepping beside me and looking over the sea of people in front of us, busy with their cars and each other. "You're looking at the biggest sideshow in West L.A." He adds, as if it's the simplest explanation.
"Sideshow?" I ask, glancing up at him, watching him watch our surroundings.
"We get together, show off our rides a little. Do some stunts, some racing... make new friends, new enemies. You get the gist." He shrugs simply and I raise an eyebrow at him.
