My heart flips as I gape at my dad. Oh god, no. If my dad and his team show up during whatever Hero and Tanaka were up to, someone's bound to get hurt. And I didn't want either Dad or Hero to get the short end of the stick. And with my dad being one with the highest success rate as a cop in L.A., I had the feeling it would be the crew.

My dad gives me a small smile as he and Stephen walk past me, a thousand thoughts swirling around in my head. Can I really just sit back and let Hero go to prison? After he saved me from being arrested?

"You.. you know where they are? Right now?" I ask, trying to control my breathing and my dad turns around to me with a nod and a grin.

"You bet. Time to end this. You ready, Shaw?" He says, looking over to his partner, as he holsters his pistol and heads out the front door.

"Woah, hang on!" Stephen calls after him and chases him out. I follow. "I heard you were a cowboy, McCaine, but you wanna go in just us two? We've gotta wait for backup. We can't cover all the exits on our own. These guys are fast." He continues and my dad nods.

"Exactly. So fast that if we wait around, they'll be gone by the time we get there! We need to take them down before they can do any more damage." He says, a determined look on his face.

"Trust me, I know guys like this. They're dangerous. If we go in undermanned, them escaping will be the least of our worries. Just let me get the rest of my task force out there." Stephen argues back and I find myself being extremely grateful for him at that moment.

"This is our chance, Shaw!" My dad exclaims and Stephen turns to me with a sigh.

"Josephine, please, tell your dad he's talking crazy!" I step closer to my dad, looking at him with pleading eyes.

"Dad, please. I need you to stay safe." I say and his face softens. He sighs and places his hands on either side of my arms.

"Josephine.. we've talked about this time and again. It's the job. I won't let anything happen to me. I promise." He says and I shake my head.

"You can't promise that."

"Your girl is right, McCaine. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if things went south. You're all she's got, man." Stephen says from behind me and my Dad hesitates, chewing on his lip and turning his head to stare at his police car. Then he turns back to me and sighs.

"Alright, Shaw. We'll do it your way. Call your cavalry. Should only cost us 10 minutes." He finally gives in and relief washes over me, not sure if it's because I just bought time for Hero and the crew or because it means that my dad would be safer. With a wave goodbye, Dad and Stephen get in Dad's car and drive off.

The moment they turn the corner, I sprint back inside and grab my phone, quickly typing a text to Hero.

Hero, you gotta get out of there! I frown when the little message 'Failed, message cannot be delivered' pops up on my screen.

Hero, call me ASAP! Again, the same message. I let out a frustrated sigh

The cops know where you are! Run!!! When that message still not goes through I try to call him, but it goes straight to voice mail. My mind floods with images of Hero being dragged away in handcuffs as I pace my room. There's no way to warn him unless... I look back at Hero's earlier text. The Pavilion!

I quickly grab a jacket and run outside, my heart already racing, aware of how crazy what I was doing really was. Sprinting as fast as I can, I reach the nearest bus stop just as the bus is about to drive past me.
