Friends With A Hufflepuff

I became close friends with Newt Scamander the first time I shifted to Hogwarts. When I got sorted into Slytherin I went to take my seat at the Slytherin table and one of Newts creatures caught my eye, it had me in awe. It was a Bowtruckle, his name was Pickett. Newt has such a soft spoken voice and amongst the chaos of Hogwarts it's nice to visit Newt in his Magizoologist lab and relax. We got talking while I was settling in to Hogwarts and me and Newt hit it off tremendously, to the point that the first rumour about me was that I was dating Newt.

I get away being best friends with a Hufflepuff because i'm so close to Draco, we weren't official, me and Draco that is, but we acted like we were. Everyone respected us together and apparently when I was away people would overhear Draco talking about me to his two friends. I knew my plan here is to be with Draco, he is a Gemini and i'm an Aries. The compatibility between Aries and Gemini is huge and in terms of communication and bonding, we seem to hit it on a high note every time. From the point of view that me, an Aries has, the actual catch in this match is that there is a certain passion in an Aries that is stabilises the dualistic nature of a Gemini. In simpler terms i'm the only one in Hogwarts that can actually control Draco Malfoy.

Students filled the halls of Hogwarts all dashing to their classes, dormitory rooms or to the lunch hall. The smell of beef casserole and apple pies gave away what was on the menu for lunch today.

I climbed the last stair case up to the Magizoologist lab and gently knocked on the door, I heard some hussle and bustle behind the door and it swung open to reveal Newt peering around the door way. His goofy smile made me chuckle "Hi Newt did you miss me?"
He pulled me into the lab and pat me on the head "I'm glad you're back, Niffler has missed you and you also missed the Occamy eggs hatching come look" Newt rambled, rushing over to the nest eager to show me.

He placed a baby Occamy into my cupped hands, the feathers were electric blue, it had the head and wings of a bird but the body of a snake. It let out a squark a ruffled it's feathers, the purple wings expanding attempting to fly. We both laughed before I gently placed it back in the nest to join the six other babies.
"Have you managed to do anymore research on your chosen animals yet Jade?" Newt asked. I walked over to Newts book case and picked up a book, "I've completed one report so far, i've just got to finish my second one and this is just the book I need." I said flicking through the pages before slipping it into my bag.

I started to stroll around the room into different animal exhibits, everything around me was made of of deep mahogany wood and the smell of fresh grass planes filled my nose. This is where Newt kept most of his fantastic beasts, right here in Hogwarts. I stepped onto a field of long grass and began searching for a Erumpent, in the muggle world they look like rhinoceros. "Try this" Newt shouted and chucked over a horn shaped object, he gestured for me to blow into it. Newt trusted me so dearly around his animals, which was a privilege not many people had here. I took a deep breath and blew as hard as I could, the horn let out a long earthy groan. As I set the horn down beside me and gazed into the distance, I couldn't see anything but the sun.

"Here she comes" Newt said. However I couldn't hear nor see anything, a couple of seconds passed before I could start to hear what sounded like a stampede. I looked up worryingly to Newt. "Just wait!" he said with a slight grin. As I turned back around I could see the Erumpent and a small calve bounding up towards us. I shot Newt a big smile and watched as the two creatures made their way over, slightly shaking the ground beneath my feet. They reached us and the baby Erumpent stayed close to its mother, Newt chucked over some food and I gentle held out my hand for the mother to take, swiftly dodging the massive glowing horn on top of her head. She stood at over 17 feet tall and 20 foot long. I admired the two for a brief minute.

Before I knew it the Erumpent's took off into the distance and I started to walk around checking out the rest of the Beasts. Newt hurried back over to his lab table where he continued to mix potions of all different colours.

After I had check out the other exhibits I jumped up on one of the lab stools opposite Newt as he was writing down notes while gazing into the test tubes, his fluffy brown hair almost came down to his eyes and he always smelt of sandalwood. I didn't want to get him started on what he was making or we would be here all day, the concentration on his face made me smile. "Where is Pickett?" I asked, I hadn't seen him pop up out of Newts blazer pocket. "He is back on the wand tree, all the other Bowtruckle accused me of favouritism with Pickett and I don't like it" Newt exclaimed. Newt has a heart of gold and was a very loyal friend to me. Hufflepuffs are hard-working, friendly, loyal and honest which doesn't sit well with Draco, however he is least threatened by Hufflepuffs especially Newt.

"Dumbledore has asked me to teach a class today, did you want to join?" Newt asked looking up from his smoking test tube.
"Can I bring Draco? I'm supposed to meet him after quidditch practice" I raised my eyebrows.
"Really.. you know he won't take this class seriously, i'm surprised you both aren't together yet" Newt shook his head.
"I'll speak to him about it. We both know i'm not here enough to commit to him yet Newt, I mean I wish I could be" I huffed with my chin resting on my arm.
"Well why don't you stay here?" Newt asked.
"I don't think that's how it works, I can't stay asleep forever, can I?" I said.
"You know the Malfoy family could easily create a magic spell that could keep you here permanently, they're that powerful. You'd also then never have to leave Niffler again" Newt smiled.
"Where is Niffler?" I asked confused, Niffler always came running over to me attempting to steal my jewellery whenever I was here.
"He's with Hagrid, poor guy" Newt chuckled. We both laughed and there was a knock at the door, Newt rushed over and opened it.

My attention turned to what Newt had in his test tubes, it was crystal blue and was puffing smoke up into the air around me. I reached out and plucked it from its stand. "Ouch it's hot" I shouted quickly putting it back in the test tube rack, I heard a voice from the doorway, "You've obviously not been keeping up with potions class either Jade" It was Draco. I looked up at the clock and his quidditch practice had finished 10 minutes ago.
"Sorry Draco I got caught up catching up with Newt" I said gathering my bag from the floor. I ran over to Newt and gave him a big hug. "Don't leave it as long to come see me again next time Jade" Newt said with a smile.

I walked out the door with Draco and he looked pissed. "I can't believe you're friends with a Hufflepuff" He huffed. I stopped in my tracks making Draco turn around on his heels quickly to see why I had stopped.
"And I can't believe you actually knew where the Magizoologist lab is Draco" I snarled.

Draco suddenly dropped his quidditch bag to the ground making a thud on the stone floor, he started to back me up against the wall. We both kept eye contact until my back was pressed against the ice cold wall. Dracos hand came up towards my neck as he grab the left side, his hands were freezing cold, I winced as they touched my skin while still staring into his slate grey eyes. "Back off Malfoy" I hushed trying to not let Newt hear us through the door.  Shivers went down my spine as Draco looked down towards lips, I could feel strands of my long dark hair was stuck on my clear lipgloss. Dracos other hand came up and pushed my hair back releasing the hair that was stuck, I could feel his ring brush against the side of my head. It felt like time had slowed and the halls fell quiet around us, Draco leant in and his lips met mine half way.

We kissed, he was gentle and lightened his grip on my neck as his hand traced down the back of my arm over my robe and slowly fell into my hand. I could feel my warmth from my hands draining into his cold ones, as he pulled back he squeezed my hand tightly and put both of our hands into his robe pocket. "I'll warm you back up" Draco smirked while rolling his eyes.
