Great deeds are usually wrought at great risks.
HERODOTUS
Edward had driven us to Olympic national forest, near one of the rivers, I could hear it as we walked further into the wilderness. The trees were impressive in size making the Washington sky even darker. I thought myself to be a reasonable girl, one who wouldn't follow boys she just met months ago into a forest in which the closest people were miles away. But here I was, giving myself to Edward Cullen.
He stopped as we had come to some large boulders in a clearing of sorts, the river louder than before, but not loud enough for me to not hear him, "I have to tell you something." He was clearly fighting with himself.
"Take your time." He deserved that, I had dumped my problems on him after all. I leaned against the rock, it wasn't wet surprisingly, the trees must have given sufficient coverage to the rocks. They protected the rocks from the rain but stole the light.
I looked up at Edward who had stopped pacing and was now looking curiously at me, I raised my eyebrow.
"You will have to hear me out before reacting too strongly. Promise me you will give me time to explain?" I nodded, he was beginning to worry me. The usual calm in his bright eyes now a strained rocky sea.
"You see my eyes, they're a bright yellow, have you ever noticed they change colors?" I just nodded slowly, still lost, yeah it was strange but maybe he wore contacts. Who was I to judge?
"Well it's not the only strange thing about me," In a split second he was a blur and then standing a step away from me, having been a couple feet away. I blinked in shock, what the FUCK? Then he proceeded to move, if that was even an accurate description, to the tree five feet away and wrap one hand around, squeezing, the tree splintered under his hand. The tree trunk that was at least half of my height in diameter.
I felt dizzy, was I going to throw up or faint? As if sensing my uneasiness he was in front of me, one hand pressed against the rock I leaned on, his face inches away from mine, and when I looked up into his abnormally amber eyes, I fainted.
When I woke up, I was in Edward's car. We were parked outside the forest, did I fall asleep on the drive over from school? Was it all a dream? I rubbed my eyes and looked at the time on the car radio, 11:47 am, lunch at school would be over soon. No this couldn't be happening. Edward wasn't in the car, I realized now fully awake. I stepped out of the car. Out of nowhere, he appeared holding my arm, steadying me.
"Please explain, I'm very confused." I didn't know what to think, didn't really know how to react if I didn't understand anything that was happening.
"Get on my back? Close your eyes though or you'll feel worse." He was crouching in front of me and I climbed on, what did I have to lose at this point? He could've killed me in my unconsciousness if that were his intention. As he said I closed my eyes and then he ran, moving imperceptibly fast. It was like I was in my dad's sport car and he had the windows open as he sped down the highway, I held on tighter. And then Edward jumped and we were flying, I was so scared I almost screamed but instead held on impossibly tighter. It seemed like we had stopped moving, "you can open them." So I did. I had to be dreaming.
We were on a branch of one of the intimidating trees I had been marveling at. Looking down I saw the river and it looked small up here. We were bigger than everything and if that were possible then whatever Edward said next would have to be too. I just muttered what I could find the breath for, "how?"
"How about I take you somewhere safer?" I nodded and closed my eyes and we were flying again, he landed safely wherever it was. I thought it was better I closed my eyes otherwise I would have been worried seeing exactly what he was doing. Then we stopped and he was tapping my arms that were wrapped around his neck. I stood on my own feet too quickly, my ankle wasn't as strong as I hoped, stumbling as I did. Edward as always managed to catch me, supporting my weight. He led us to a tree trunk that we could sit on, the weight taken off my ankle now. We were on the other side of the large rocks we stood next to hours before.
