Ruby felt her eyes begin to flutter open as she looked dizzily around her unfamiliar surroundings. The sound of a heart monitor gently beeping next to her is what had woken her from her slumber.
She was clearly in a hospital room, the smell of cleaner filled her nose and gentle sunlight shown in from outside from a large window across from her bed. The walls were a pale unoffencive yellow with little blue swirls all over them. There were several bouquets of flowers dotting the room around her and she smiled, wondering who each one was from.
She was pulled from her thoughts when she felt something grip her hand and she turned to see Lucifer asleep next to her, his hand in hers and his head on her thigh. He looked like shit.
She couldn't help but wonder if she looked much better though.
She shifted her weight and he stirred in his sleep, slowly sitting up and yawning before he looked at her and his eyes widened when they met hers.
She chuckled tiredly, her voice dry and cracking. "Hi."
Pink tears began to fill his eyes as he moved to gently, ever so gently take her face in his hands and he leaned in to kiss her dry lips. "You're finally awake. God ruby I was so scared..." He admitted once he pulled away.
She reached up and ran her fingers through the for on his jaw. "Scared? Please. Did you really think you could kill me? Oh he of little faith." She teased as tears stung her eyes as well.
He chuckled and took her hand, kissing it before holding it in his hand. "Ruby... I'm so sorry i... I didn't know they were... I didnt..." He sighed and she squeezed his hands.
"How could you have known if I never told you? Don't put that blame on yourself." She said gently.
He sighed and nodded slowly.
"Though I'm upset that even after all we have been though you still don't listen to me..."
He nodded again, hanging his head, rubbing his thumb over her hand.
"I tore up their contract..." He said gently and she smiled.
"I would hope so." She said, "I'd hate to have to kill you in a hospital. Might upset the staff here." She teased..partially.
He chuckled. "Maybe just a little.... do you wanna see them? They're in the waiting room with dice and that kettle..."
She smiled and nodded before he gave her a kiss and left to go send them in.

She relaxed against her pillow and sighed, rubbing her eyes. How was she going to explain this to them? Had kettle already talked to them? Had wheezy? She prayed wheezy hadn't!
She heard three sets of feet quickly approaching and she sat up straighter and smiled before her door opened and in stepped the two little cups, holding hands and dice right behind them. Her boys. All three of her babies.
The cups hesitated and looked back at dice for assurance who smiled and nodded. "Go on. She's not gonna bite." He told them and they both came over and sat on the bed on either side of her.
"How are you feeling?" Asked Mugman nervously.
Ruby smiled warmly. "So much better. Thank you Atan." She said gently.
His eyes widened and he looked at cuphead. "She knows my old name cup!" He said excitedly.
Cuphead folding his arms and looked up at ruby with a hard look on his face. "She sure does... what's mine?"
"Luci." She said with a smile. He looked so serious.
He relaxed a little and nodded as Mugman chuckled. "She got you cuppy."
"Oh shush. So she knows our names? Big deal..."
"I don't just know your names. I know everything about you two. I know that cuphead loves the show Bendy 'n' pals because you like Alice angel." She said teasingly and the little mugs cheeks went bright red like his eyes and shorts.
"I...I do not! Th-the shows just...funny that's all!"
Mugman chuckled.
"I also know that you my little Mugman enjoy the little China doll in kettles bedroom." She said, reaching out and tickling his chin, making his cheeks flush blue.
"It's just pretty is all..."
She nodded. "She is..." She said as she let her hand be on his cheek. It had been so long since she had been able to touch them when they were awake.
"So you really are our mother then... you have the necklace, you know our names and you know stuff about us that no one else would ever know." Cuphead said, reaching out to take her other hand.
She smiled gently. "I am. I am your mother. And I love you both so much."
"If you love us why didn't you want us?" Cuphead asked, tears in the corners of his red eyes and she frowned, squeezing his hand gently.
"I wanted you baby. I wanted you both so badly but I live and work at the casino and as you saw... that place is very dangerous. I couldn't justify bringing you there and trying to raise you when I knew there was a way to give you both a far better and safer life with someone else." She explained and they both looked at each other before moving to hug themselves to her, pressing their faces into her neck and she let the tears flow down her face as she wrapped her arms around her baby's and held them to her.
