When ruby returned early the next morning the the casino the devil was furious and slammed her against the wall, making her head ring as she had just slipped in the door.
"Do you want to explain to me why you ran out on me yesterday?"
She wiggled under his iron grip and glared at him. "Let go of me Satan! You're hurting me!"
He snarled and stepped back away from her, still glaring, still angry but not wanting to hurt her.
She rubbed her wrists and turned to walk away. "Like I said. Something more important than your inflated ego came up and I had to see to it."
"I don't have an inflated ego!" He roared in exasperation. "I had to refund all those tickets for your show last night because of you and that little stunt of yours!"
"Oh poor Satan! Lost some money! It's not like you've got an office filled with it! Just leave me alone! I've had a very stressful evening and need a drink and don't particularly feel like being berrated for my efforts." She yelled as she turned to walk behind the bar, poring herself a drink and the devil snarled and stormed off in a huff, leaving ruby to her drink.

Wheezy slipped out once the devil was out of sight and sight as he looked at his dear friend in such a flustered and upset state. "Ruby? You ok?" He asked, coming over to her.
"No! No I'm not fucking ok! I just had to bail my son out of jail and got nothing but lip out of him for it! He's got tattoos now too! He's been skipping school... and I think he's been doing drugs. Wheezy what am I doing wrong? I've done everything I can to show this boy how loved he is and he's just not responding to it!" She slammed back a shot after she finished speaking and shivered at the taste.
Wheezy sighed and sat down across from her. "Kids can be complicated ruby. Sometimes you can do everything right and they still go their own way down darker paths. It's just how some of us are wired. My parents for example spoiled me rotten as a kid and yet here I am serving the devil for all eternity... that's certainly not the plan my parents had for me."
She sighed and took another shot. "Wheezy i... I don't care what dice does as long as he's happy I just... I'm scared I'm gonna lose him... I know eventually he's gonna notice I'm not aging and then I'm gonna have to explain to him that I'm going outlive him but... I really don't want to lose him before he gets to live a full mortal life. I want to see him fall in love and have babies and be happy... I don't want to see him in his grave before he's even grown..." She said, tears filling her eyes and wheezy looked at her in shock, reaching over the counter and pulling her into his arms, making her wrinkle her nose as he smelled like smoke but his hug was warm and comforting.
"With a mom like you ruby nothing too bad can happen to him. He's gonna turn out fine. Just be patient with him and yourself. You're doing great." He soothed as she rested her head against him and chuckled sadly.
"Thanks wheezy. I appreciate that." She whispered and he patted her back, letting her go slowly.
"Hey. You're my best friend here ruby. If I can't comfort you I'm useless. Now. Pour me a shot. All this blubbering stresses me out." He said with a playful wink.
She rolled her eyes, laughing at him. "Oh poor thing." She teased as she poured him a shot and herself one as well before they both tossed them back.

As far as ruby could tell dice had taken their talk to heart as over the next few months he stayed out of trouble... well as far as she knew.
However ruby was wrong. Dice just got good at hiding the trouble he was in from her. He joined a low level gang, started pick pocketing, conning people out of their money with little street games that He rigged up to never let anyone win.

Well one night when he was out with his friends they said they wanted to go to the casino. Dice tried to get out of it, saying he wasn't feeling well but his friends somehow drug him along, promising him riches and booze and loose women. It's a wonder how the 14 year old agreed to go indeed...

Dice and his friends took to the craps tables, drinks in hands, (because who cards in the devils casino), and dice seemed to have himself a little winning streak. It made him so excited. He wanted to use the money to buy ruby something nice for Christmas since that was coming up... what he didn't realize was he had caught the attention of none other than the devil himself.

Wheezy rushed into the lounge bar where ruby was singing a lovely little song about how men all sucked and she stopped as she locked eyes with her. The patrons all looked at her in confusion as wheezy panted, having run across the casino to get her. "Dice." Was all he needed to say before her blood ran cold and her eyes widened and she jumped off the stage and flew out the doors and through the casino, panic and dread setting in and her whole world seemed to move in slow motion as she caught the glimpse of the devil holding up the golden soul contract with that sly grin on his face and dice looked so excited at the idea of whatever the devil offered him and he quickly placed the quill to the paper and signed his name.
"No..." She whispered as she turned to rush him as he turned to pick up the red dice from the table and before he could throw them she reached him and grabbed his hand and pushed him back from the table, panting and red in the face, angry and afraid for her son.
She grabbed his hand and pulled the dice from his hand as he looked down at her in shock and she tossed them on the floor and took his shoulders. "Have you lost your mind King Dice Decker!? Have you actually lost it?!" She yelled, giving him a shake. "You swore to me you'd never come here!"
His eyes were wide as he listened to her. He had never heard her yell before, never seen her angry before... wait. "Mom... what are you doing here. why are you? Hold on... THIS is where you sing?!"
"Do not try to make this about me Dice! Why would you ever make a deal with this demon?! I raised you better than this!"
"Ruby..." the devil said softly. Looking between the two in shock and her glare turned to him.
"What?!"
"Why is this kid calling you mom?" He asked slowly, his voice dark and dangerous.
"Because he's my son! I adopted him years ago! Now give me that paper! He didn't know what he was doing!" She snapped as she went to snatch the paper from the devil but he held it out of her reach.
"I can't do that ruby. He has to hold up his half of the bet." He said with a sly smile.
Her eyes burned with pure hate and she snarled. "No! He will not be giving you his soul!"
"Maybe he will. Maybe he won't. He has to roll and we shall see."
"No he will not..." Ruby started but dice cut her off as he went to the table, having picked up the red dice from the floor and he threw them onto the table.
Ruby turned her gaze to the table and her eyes widened and the devil chuckled.
"Oooh bad luck my friend. Snake eyes... now. About that soul..."
