Chapter 27

Laurence comes up the stairs quietly rubbing his face tiredly. His long talk with Ein last night had brought back a lot of things Laurence didn't want to think about and he'd ended up restless, with nightmares.

Even now Laurence tried to push away the feelings starting to flare again, instead knocking on Ein's door. There's no response at first and Laurence sighs opening the door preparing himself to wake Ein up.

Instead he's greeting with Ein on the phone and Laurence frowns seeing the choked look on Ein's face. Ein hesitates clearing his throat silently with a swallow before speaking into the phone not noticing Laurence there yet.

"Y-Yeah . . . can . . .I'll . .get Garroth and see if he'll help."

It hits Laurence that he's talking to Aaron, and that he's talking about something to do with Jenna. Laurence motions to him as Ein notices him and makes a motion to mean he'll be right out and Laurence nods quietly waiting by the door so he doesn't wait out in the hallway like a creeper.

"Oh yeah . . ." Ein trails off returning talking to Aaron and Laurence is wishing he could hear Aaron's side of the conversation "You work today . . . How bad is it there?"

Laurence watches as Ein's face falls at the mention of something and Laurence winces seeing the pain in his eyes. Ein takes a deep breath meeting Laurence's gaze with a deep breath as he sits back on the bed.

"I-I can't right now okay Aaron . . . I don't want them right now" Ein whispered his voice wavering as he swallowed keeping it steady. Laurence gave him a stiff smile titling his head with a shrug

Ein listens before suddenly snorting in surprise as he pulls back the phone staring at it in shock. "What the hell?"

"What? What'd he say?" Laurence asks frowning at his reaction

"He said see you later honey . . ." Ein says slowly it clicking for both of them as Ein stood frowning and Laurence followed him.

"Some one was listening in or almost caught him" Laurence said quietly as Ein nodded jogging down the stairs.

"What's more is Aaron was at his desk and someone came to him most likely the chief" Ein muttered "You don't interrupt calls at your desk, because most likely they're to do with leads and cases and they're always important. You don't hang up on any phone call either unless it's for the chief"

Zane wakes again and Nana is staring at him with something in her eyes that sends shivers down his spine. He takes a deep breath seeing his reflection in them from the morning light and he feels his whole heart swell with emotion as he smiles brightly.

"Morning" She whispers reaching up to kiss him as he welcomes her chuckling into it causing her to giggle separating.

"You mean again right?" He teased as a pink blush spread across her cheeks and Zane took it in, that being his favorite look on her.

"Yeah"‌ She giggles and sits up as he lays there watching the way her curls shine in the sunlight and Zane smiles. It's been several months but he never gets used to seeing it.
