No Quarter - Led Zeppelin

School was school.

Grade 10 was hard, but I wasn't about to crack, especially since next week our exams were going to start and thank God that for the first time in six years I'm not writing everyday of the exams.

These are the benefits of choosing your subjects.

I must say that for once I feel more than ready for the exams. I'm ready to take the bull by its horns and drive it into the ground, but first a general knowledge competition.

That's what happens when you join the team. You participate in a competition every week.

Our "match" is against Morgan High School.

As a student of Thomas Victor High School anyone from Morgan High should be seen as the enemy, but this just isn't the case with me and most students who attend either school.

When it was time to go to high school about a third of the people from my primary school, Thomas Victor Primary, went to Morgan.

Personally, I didn't understand why.

Thomas Victor is a great school and the only reason I'd ever leave would be if an even better school (that also happens to be a private school) gives me a good enough scholarship.

If that happens, I'm off, but since that hasn't happened I'm still here, supporting them like there's no tomorrow and there might not be, which is why I continue to.

You see, before I came to Thomas Victor I didn't know that there was a feud going on.

It turns out that about fifty years ago, there were two brothers: Tom and Morgan Victor. The best of friends, two peas in a pod, as close as two brothers can be. They were both very rich and passionate about education so much so that they built Victor High School. Though the school was just starting out it became a success. It was known for its excellence in culture, academics and sports. Mostly sports though.

Over the years sport began to take over the school. Rugby was the school's pride and joy actually.

You see Tommy and Morgan were quite different.

Tommy was a very athletic man and thrived in sports, while Morgan strayed toward the culture side.

They both enjoyed academics, but not as much as they enjoyed their sport and culture.

Before long, Morgan became discontent with the direction the school was going. He felt that they were ignoring the culture side and became very dissatisfied.

He and Tommy often fought about what kind of school they had wanted to create.

Both had wanted to create a school that they would want to attend, but Tommy didn't want to attend a school that focused on culture and Morgan visa-verse.

This and many other things cause the brothers to grow apart. There was even a story that went around about how Morgan stole Tommy's wife, but everyone knows that that's just hoarse.

After about fifteen years Morgan had had enough. He broke away from Victor High and started his own school: Morgan High. And Morgan High was beautiful. Soon the school became so great that its greatest rival was none other than Victor High (by this time the name had already been changed to Thomas Victor High School).

Tommy, realizing the mistake he had made tried to beg Morgan to come back so that they could both run the two schools together, but Morgan wasn't having any of it. As far as he was concerned, he had no brother and he was going to do everything in his power to make sure that Morgan High was the better school.

They were constantly at each others necks, apparently. It was like the Cold War, but for these two schools.

About ten years ago Morgan and Tommy met up. Words were said and things were discussed. They entered the room strangers with memories, but left long reunited brothers. They urged the two schools to stop competing, and for some time it seemed like they had, but old habits die hard. The two high schools both became known for going at each other and the feud never died down completely.

Morgan and Tommy are still alive. They live in Constantia, together with their wives.

They are proud of their schools, but have no idea what to do about them.

As far as I know, I don't think that they even run the schools anymore.

As I climbed into the school bus, I looked around and saw my teammates.

We all know that we're probably going to lose because Morgan High will always be the better school for cultural activities like this, but if we lose, we're losing with dignity.

*About these songs, non of them really have anything to do with the chapter. They are all just songs I was listening to, when I wrote the chapter.

I'm updating today because I'm not sure if I'll be able to update tomorrow, but if I can, i still will. I've already finished the book, it wasn't long (it is a short story) so I'm going to post daily until I've run out of chapters.
