I am sitting on the ground, my back pressed against our dorm room, my cheeks red. Aubrey and I have been emptying boxes and decorating our dorm room all day, and my body is tired and in excruciating pain. The fact that I haven't trained all summer is catching up to me as I feel every single muscle in my body burn. I look up at a panting Aubrey lying on the ground, her brown hair all over the place, and her curvy lips in a pout.
"I can't feel my legs! Can you still see them? Are they gone?" asks Aubrey frantically.
"Much of a drama queen," I laugh. "Your legs are still attached to your body."
She looks up at me, her light brown eyes sending me a glare as she pushes a strand of curly hair away from her face. I get up slowly, holding on my bed frame as support for my weak legs, before sitting down on my now perfectly made bed. I take my long black hair out of their ponytail before massaging my scalp with a satisfied grin. I open my phone to see it is already 4 p.m, and I sigh heavily.
"I am dying of hunger," Aubrey says standing up. "We haven't eaten anything since breakfast."
"What about take-out, and a quiet night in?" I propose excitedly.
"Not happening," she smiles, "We are going out tonight since it's our last Saturday night before school starts. Nick invited me to an illegal street race tonight and you are coming along."
"As if that was going to happen. You are crazy, it is an illegal street race. Do you know what this word means? You should since we're going to be lawyers in a couple of years," I reply, baffled.
"We are not lawyers yet, we aren't even in law school for all I know! We are just starting the third year of our bachelor. Live a little Isa, or you'll be boring for the rest of your life!" She exclaims.
"I am not boring!" I glare at her with my hazel eyes.
I hold her stare as she gets up from the ground. I get up too, and we are now face-to-face, my couple of inches taller making me look down at her as she puts both her hands on my shoulders.
"Oh but darling, you are. You're only 20, and already wishing for a quiet Saturday night" she says honestly. "Anyway you don't really have a choice, there is no way I am going there without you, Nick and I aren't that close yet, and I need you to save me if anything goes south."
Nick Johnson, the only person in Aubrey's head lately has been him. She's always talking about him, telling me all about how he's perfect for her. It's sweet, really, but I don't know how to answer her as she always goes rambling for hours without even asking for my opinion.
"I am not coming," I answer stubbornly.
"Please, any way you love drag races! This is the same, just illegal, no big deal, "she smiles.
"If a cop shows up I swear I'm never speaking to you again," I whisper.
She looks at me with a big smile before walking away to take her essentials for the shower. We both get cleaned up before coming back into our dorm room to finish getting ready. I decide to wear a green t-shirt tucked into my high wasted black skinny jeans and a big black belt. I slip into my fall black boots before taking my keys and my small bag.
"Don't bother, Nick is coming to pick us up, we'll stop to eat something on the way there," she informs me, looking at my keys.
I nod. My stomach makes an enormous sound as it's already 6 p.m., and we still haven't eaten. We both leave our room before walking towards the elevator. When we get down Nick is waiting for us in the main hall. I look at Aubrey who has stars in her eyes as she walks happily towards him. I must admit she has taste; the guy is handsome. He has black curly short hair with green piercing eyes. He is tall and well-built, even though he's on the skinnier side, and he has sharp facial features and thin lips. I have seen him a couple of times since he and Aubrey have started seeing each other, and I approved. He seems to be a really nice guy.
