For the rest of the day, Ashton and I hang out together. We both relate to the others awkward embarrassing problems and loneliness.
'You know, I don't think I have had a friend in about 5 years! The last friend I made was the French boy called Malle!' Ashton chuckles wildly.
'Well I haven't had a friend since year 5. My last friend was a retard called Jenny!' I retort.
'Ok, you win! But can I ask you something?'
'Yeah, sure!'
'Will you be my best friend?' He laughed, again.
'I don't know if Jenny would be very comfortable with that! But I guess she doesn't have to know.' We smile at one another.
'I just hope you're prepared for me, never trust a loner,' I wink at him. 'Hmm, I don't think we will have much of a problem there, seeing as I'm one of the schools biggest loners!' 'Then it's settled!' I declare. 'We can be loners, together!' We both crack up laughing, even though it isn't funny. I suppose we have a slightly distorted sense of humour.
'I'm so glad you tripped over this morning!'
'Speak for yourself!' I say, pouting and rubbing the top of my forehead. 'Aww poor baby!' Ashton whispers in a motherly voice. I dramatised my pain by making fake sobs while Ashton pulls me into his broad arms (for a loner he sure does work out). When the bell rings at the end of the day, I don't feel my usual sense of pleasure. I'm disappointed I have to leave my happy world I have entered to go into 'Beer Ville'. I have never realised before how truly revolting my house is. I suddenly feel someone tap my back. I turn around in shock to see Ashton standing here.
'Hey, loner! I know this might sound a little weird but, wanna come over to my place? We just had so much fun today and...?'
'Hell, fricken yeah!' I shout in glee. 'Well then let's go!'
