I had really needed all that friend time. Who knew surrounding yourself with people you love would be better than locking yourself up alone in your room? I guess everybody but me.
Adam still hadn't left school yet. So I kept seeing him in the hallways. It was awkward and kinda sad. He didn't have the same heart-breaking effect on me but it still kinda sucked.
"Hey! Drama queen." I heard.
I turned around and of course it was Natalie.
"What do you want?" I asked annoyed.
"I needed to find an actor for my play. You fit the role perfectly. So do me a favour?" She asked, clearly uncomfortable with the whole thing.
"Yeah okay." I said. I needed more things to do. Needed to keep my mind off Adam and focused on anything but Adam.
"I knew you'd say no." She said looking pissed.
"I said yes."
"Oh. okay. Show up in the auditorium at 8 tomorrow okay?" She looked embarrassed and left.
"Was she bothering you again?" Tyra asked.
"Nah. She isn't that bad. She just wants to appear tough." I said.
"Are you sure? Because I'm pretty sure i heard that she's been kicked out of two schools so far and been suspended by our school like once." Tyra said.
"Sheesh. Chill with your judgement, Ty." I laughed. "She isn't going to murder me or something."
"Who knows? She might." Tyra joked.
The bell rang and we went to class. The whole day after that was pretty boring.
"Ash, I heard you're going for the play thing this year? Please tell me thats only just a rumor." Jacob said, on the car ride home.
"Umm...well...I like acting okay?" I said.
"Are you serious? Those theatre people are so lame. Do you really want people to think you like hanging out with people like them?"
"Jay, shut up. I've never done anything depending on what people would think. Why would I start now?"
"Okay fine. But the drama geeks are worst kind. Just warning you. And I know you don't care what people say about you but I do, so keep this whole thing on a down low." He said.
"Okay fine. Can I go now?" I said, opening the car door.
"Yes, your highness. Your castle awaits you."
"Oh my God! And you call the theatre folk lame?" I said laughing.
"At least I'm a jock."
"Well right now you're a douchebag." I laughed and left.
The next day I went to the auditorium at 8am and there were only like three people there other than me - Devika, the creepy sweet girl that I'd spoken to once (I can't remember her name) and a really pretty eyed boy.
"Hey, Deva? What are you doing here? Do you even have time for anything else when you're not studying or playing sports?" I asked jokingly.
"I just really like theatre. Don't tell the boys in the team though okay? They'll make fun of me and call me a girl." Devika said.
"You do realize that you are a girl right?" I asked.
"Yeah...but well...you know what I mean."
"Hey, Nat. Looks like I'm here early huh? First five. I think the others need to learn a lesson about punctuality though, I mean its 8:30 for heavens sake." I said, turning to Natalie.
"Oh hey, Barbie. What do you mean others? This is it. The drama department. Well the actors at least. The lighting and stage team didn't have anything to do today so they aren't here." Natalie said.
"Her name is 'Barbie'? That's really weird." Said the pretty eyed boy.
"No. Thats my thing." Natalie said.
"Aww. Looks likes someones getting attached to me." I said, smugly smiling at her.
"Don't push it, Barbie." Natalie said.
"Hey. My name's Ashley. You can call me Ash." I said, shaking the guy's hand.
"Oh. My name is Ansel. You can call me Ansel." He said and laughed at his own joke. Him being so lame made me laugh. I could totally imagine being friends with this guy.
"Okay so let's start. I'll just brief you all with the script." Natalie said. "Robin why don't you hand out the scripts, while I tell them the basic concept?"
"Okay" Robin said. I knew her name began with a R!
I was just happy that Jacob was wrong about theatre folk being weird. All these people were awesome and I was pretty sure all of them were friend-material. Devika was already my friend, Natalie seemed to be becoming nicer, Ansel was pretty funny, and Robin was really really nice, which was slightly weird considering she was Natalie's friend but whatever I guess "opposites attract" is true for friendships too.
The coolest thing was that a goth, a cheerleader, a class clown, a jock and a goody-goody nerd were getting together. That rarely ever happened in our school. And it was so cool being a part of it.
