Not your perfect third wheel

I got out of class and went to the school parking lot.

Normally Jacob drops me and Tyra off on his car but today his car wasn't in the usual parking space and I could'nt see Tyra or Jacob anywhere.

They hadn't gone home without me had they?

''Ashley,do you need a ride home?''

I turned around and Adam Powell, the school's hottest guy, was on his bike, asking me for a ride!

''Yeah, actually I do.'' I said. Which, to me, was pretty impressive since I didn't think I would ever be able to talk to Adam.

''Cool, hop on. BTW, I was thinking about prom....and...'' I cut him off.

''Actually, Adam, I don't think I'm going to prom.''

I couldn't go. Jacob would be there with his date, dancing. I couldn't bear to see that.

''Oh. Okay then.'' He sounded a bit dissapointed. Though I didn't understand why. He would probably go to school tomorrow and ask out another girl and she would probably say yes.

''Here we are! Home!'' He said.

''Thanks for the lift. Bye.''

I walked to my front door.

''ASHLEY, IF YOU CHANGE YOUR MIND ABOUT PROM, MAKE SURE TO TELL ME.'' He shouted.

I turned around, looked at him and smiled. ''Sure.'' I continued to my front door. Like he cared about whether i went to prom. He would get a date by tomorrow and wouldn't bother about me then.

As soon as I got home I called Tyra.

''HOW THE HELL COULD YOU GUYS GO WITHOUT ME? WHY WOULD YOU GUYS DO THAT?'' I shouted at her.

''Sorry, Ash. Actually I was just upset that Dylan cancelled on me and I asked Jacob to take me home immediately.''

''WHAT? WHY DID HE CANCEL?'' I wasn't mad at Tyra and Jacob anymore. Now I was mad at Dylan.

''Because he decided that he wanted to take Tammy instead.'' I could could just imagine the look of disgust on Tyra's face when she took Tammy's name.

''THAT SON OF A BITCH! Atleast we get to stay at home together on prom night, and watch mean girls now.''

''Actually, Jacob asked me to go to prom with him and I couldn't say no. It would be a good way to make Dylan jealous. Plus you could come with me and Jacob.''

My heart shattered. Jacob's new crush was Tyra.

Jacob always had new crushes and he would always tell me about them. It always broke my heart because I knew that I would never be in that list of his, But to know that my best friend was on the top of that list, again, shattered my heart.

''No. I cant. My mom is going out of town on prom night and she doesn't want me leaving the house.'' I lied. I didnt want to go and see Jacob and Tyra dancing. That would kill me.

''Oh. Okay.''

''Bye, Ty. I need to go do homework now.''

''Bye!'' Tyra cut the call.

I got straight to work. Homework would probably keep me busy and help me stop thinking about Jacob and Tyra.

The next day, school was really boring. I went to the school parking lot as usual and went to Jacob's usual parking spot. His car was there this time and so was he.

''Ash, I'm sorry 'bout yesterday.'' Jacob said.

''It's alrigt. Ty told me everything.''

''Oh. Okay....Ash, if you don't mind can you hitch a ride with someone else today? I want to be alone with Ty today.''

I couldn't believe Jacob was telling me this. Not only did my crush like my best friend, but now I had become the third wheel.

''Sure. It's totally alright.''

I went to the bus stand. I had no other choice but to go by Bus.

''ASHLEY!''

I turned around and Adam was there, on his bike, waving like crazy to me. ''C'MON! I'LL DROP YOU!''

I ran to where he was and got on his bike. I was honestly very grateful to him because I hated going by bus. It smelled like dead people.

''Thanks'' I said.

''Its alright. If you ever need a ride, just tell me.''

''Well...I'm going to need a ride regularly from now on. I Lost my ride.'' I told him.

''It's fine by me. I get more time with you.'' That got me blushing. ''BTW about prom, did you change your mind about going?'' That shocked me. How did he not have a date by now? Did that mean that he hadn't asked any girl after me?

''No, I still don't think i'm going'' I wouldn't be able to stand seeing Jacob and Tyra together.

''Okay. Then would you mind going out for dinner with me on prom night?''

OMG! Adam Graceffa was asking me out! Again!

''Sure'' I was smiling like an idiot right about now.

We finally reached my house and I wished I lived a little further away from school.

I got down the bike and made the fortune mistake of turning around and seeing Adam.

He had a huge smile on his face and his face was glowing with happiness. His smile made me forget all about Jacob.

Jacob never really loved me. His love story didn't include me and it never would. I couldn't sit and cry over him all day, I needed to move on.

Adam showed interest in me and seemed to genuinely like me. That was a feeling I was previously dying for, from Jacob. If Adam liked me, I didn't see any reason for me not to like him back.

I was officially over Jacob. Maybe not completely, but I should probably take baby steps.
