Lily fixed her body armor and slung the assault rifle on her back, giving a final check on her equipment before mounting her ATV. With a rough terrain ahead with unknown elements lurking at every corner, she needs mobility rather than defenses.
Not that she ever needed one, since nothing in this world can kill her anyway. Then she heard footsteps incoming, ruffling on the dried ground from her rear. She was surprised to see the owner of the footsteps.
"Yiren? What are you doing up?" She turned her attention back on her ATV, checking on all the gauges.
"You're going now?" The longing in her voice is something that threw Lily off for a moment. Lily turned around again, only to see the expression that can be seen on a soldier's wife when she sees her husband about to go to fight in a war; grave and wistful.
The expression she always saw in Alice's face whenever she was off going on a mission, with or without her. Then her mind wanders to Alice, the woman that she swore her heart to. If only she knew about what Lily had done here with Yiren, there is no telling about the outcome she is about to face.
She had committed adultery, when she and Alice had pledged an oath of union. She is starting to doubt her own action, even if it is in the name of mission. Does she have to sacrifice the sanctity of her relationship with Alice just to get the job done?
But then, Park Bom did say this before; espionage required one to sacrifice whatever needed to be sacrificed just to maintain the facade needed to complete the mission. The key to perfect espionage is knowing and not losing your true self while being able to split yourself into multiple personalities to fit in into any situation.
But sadly for her, she is still at the amateur level, especially when it comes into something that requires her using her own body. Because right now, her heartstring was struck hard by the expression given by Yiren, when at this point, she should be able to pull off a mask to cover the real Lily.
"Lily?" Yiren called out to her again, snapping Lily out of her long-winded thoughts.
"Come here." Lily called her, hugging her tight as she came close.
"I'll be back before you know it. Go back to sleep, okay? Your eye bags are getting darker each day." Lily kissed her cheek, patting gently afterward. Yiren caught Lily's hand, kissing it before letting it go.
"Keep your comm on, okay? I know you're more than capable, but please. I'll be there as soon as I can." Yiren's voice cracked, her eyes glistening as she stares into Lily's scarlet eyes.
"Okay. But go back to sleep, okay? It's just a simple recon." Lily chuckled, pulling up her cloth mask before putting on her goggles. She turned on her ATV and took off, leaving dust in her trail, leaving Yiren standing alone behind.
"Fuck you, Lily. You fucked up big time. Death is too easy for you..." Lily thought to herself as she pressed her throttle more.
Somewhere down the road she stopped. A feeling of uneasiness is suffocating her. Not because of her action nor Yiren, but something else. She looked around, scanning her surroundings for maybe the source is somewhere near here. But none can be seen. But somehow, the feeling is getting stronger by the second and if her experience has taught her anything, she should trust her gut feeling.
She flipped her AR on, bringing out the map of the area. Something caught her interest, in the form of a military base.
"Hm~~ This is something...." She smirked.
It would be easy for her to pull a real time feed on the area, but ever since she started this mission, she had temporarily disconnected her AR from the main network. Doing so would require her to reconnect with the main network, thus exposing her location to Alice and the others, which would be the last thing she wanted.
