Chapter 13

Massimo's pov

The days have been dragging painfully slow and I feel like I'm loosing my mind. I can't concentrate at work, I get flashes of Skai on that bed, Lord I want to wring the necks of each and every one of them.

Ismerelda keeps asking me questions that i can't answer, I still remember clearly the look on her face when we explained to her that Skai had been kidnapped, she was heartbroken, she cried and refused to eat for days.

Bruce and his men have been working over time to find out where she's being kept and, in the process we learnt these guys are human traffickers and are wanted criminals.

I still can't understand how Danielle got to know people like that. Danielle and Jeff are behind bars awaiting trial, but I know Danielle will escape the hand of justice and will be sent to an asylum where she was meant to be anyway - turns out she had been admitted into a mental home by her parents few years ago, but she managed to fool the clinic and they ended up discharging her, thinking she was okay in the head, well now we know she's not.

**phone rings**

"yes?"

"you need to come down here, I already called Chris." Bruce says.

"I'll be there in 30."

I hang up and pick up my keys and rush to my car. My parents took Ismerelda with them, because they know how stressed I've been, trying to find Skai. On my way to Bruce I get a call from Tania, she asked for updates and I told her we'll find Skai and we spoke some more before I hung up, I've got to be positive.

I just got to Bruce's office, he informs me they were able to raid a guy called marcello's place. They have him in custody along with his men, they rescued women and children, some being missing persons cases that had become cold cases. I asked him about the guys that touched Skai and he said they'll be charged with rape and I wasn't allowed to see them, because of how I would react, but I still want to see them, I try to insist but Bruce doesn't budge.

I'm taken to the marcello man, but I'm not allowed inside, I'm just watching through a one-way glass window and he looks at least 60, a bit too old to live a life of crime if you ask me. During his interrogation session, he looks relaxed, too relaxed for a criminal and it makes my blood boil, because this man is acting way too nonchalant for my liking, I need to know where she is and I need to know now.

I tell one of the cops to inform Bruce, that I want to have a word with him. When he joins me outside, I tell him I want to talk with the marcello man and he refuses again, I'm growing frustrated and the day is already far spent. Before I can argue further, my phone rings in my pocket, it's a private number, so I step away to answer it

"Massimo Valastro."

"Babe?"

I stop tapping my foot impatiently when I hear her voice

"Skai? Baby where are you?"

She starts crying and I feel a tear roll down my face. She tells me how some dude called Guy, rescued her and they're hiding away in some cabin faraway in the woods in Mexico. I tell her I'll be coming to get her tonight, I speak with Guy and we talk about where we'll meet and precautions to take.

Immediately I hang up, I rush to where I was standing before and tell the cop standing outside the door to call Bruce out.

When Bruce comes out, I tell him everything, the call and everything I discussed with Guy and Skai.

He immediately starts making arrangements for the move to Mexico to get Skai.

"I'm coming with." I inform him, rather than ask.

Bruce looks up and tells the person he was talking to on the phone to hold on, then he gives me a look, like I'm crazy.

"no man, let me do my job, okay?..."

I cut him off

"Bruce you seem to forget that we both served in the army, and we were both deployed to Afghan, did two tours together. So, I can hold my own Fort."

He let's out an exasperated sigh, because he knows I'm telling the truth.

"I don't think you should come massimo, besides we don't want anything happening to you, now that Skai is finally coming home." he tries to reason with me,

But, I'm having none of that.

"I'm coming and that's final."

He just nods and continues making calls. I call Chris and some other connections I have, we can't be too careful, from what I've heard José is a dangerous mafia leader. I can't wait to have Skai with me, in my arms.
