A Day In The Rye

Chapter 14

Skai's pov

I walk over to them and join them on the dining. Guy serves me a plate of spaghetti tetrazzini, I thank him and as I eat I get flashbacks of massimo cooking for me - I can cook but I love it when he cooks for me, that's his way of showing affection, little acts of service like cooking for me, rubbing my feet or a full body massage or simply carrying my bag for me...

I miss him so much, I remember once when I acted like I didn't like the food he made, he got so worked up, he almost threw the food away, to make me another and that thought brings a smile to my face.

But, my thoughts are interrupted when I see Guy's face too close to mine and he's looking at me funny, I blink a couple of times and he backs off a little.

"I'd been calling you, you weren't answering just twirling the pasta and smiling, you scared me... And you weren't even blinking girl what you trying to do? Give me a heart attack?"

I laugh a little and shake my head.

" I'm sorry, I just... I just, miss him so much..."

I start crying and he rubs my back.

"I'm sorry..." I apologize as I clean my tears and some snot.

"Shhh...its fine, I understand... Here use this phone to call him."

I stare at him with wide eyes while taking the phone.

"Thank you!" I say sincerely.

I look at Gabriel and he smirks and nods his head, I smile and hurriedly dial Massimo's number, it rings for a while then I hear his deep voice.

"Massimo Valastro."

I smile

"Babe?"

"Skai? Baby where are you?"

I feel a tear roll down my face, and I begin to sob. I tell him how Guy, rescued me and we're hiding away in some cabin faraway in the woods in Mexico. He tells me he'll be coming to get me tonight. He asks to speak with Guy and they talk for a while before he hangs up. I'm so excited and happy, I start crying happy tears.

"You should get some sleep... This time tomorrow, you'll be in bed with your beau." he smirks.

I blush, then nod and tell the boys goodnight, I go to bed with a smile on my face.

I'm woken by loud sounds of what I think are gunshots, I jump up to my feet just when Gabriel bursts into the room I'm in.

"what's going on..."

He cuts me off

"we need to leave, José's men found this place out and are here."

With that he drags me out of the room and we begin to run in the opposite direction of where the gunshots are coming from. He leads me to the laundry room and presses a button that makes the table in the centre of the room to move to the side and a flight of stairs comes to view, when we go down the stairs the table moves back to position.

"What of Guy?"

"he'll join us later, but for now he asked me to lead you to safety."

I nod, I'm not sure he can see me as it's dimly lit down here by his phone's torch.

We walk down a narrow path that looks like a tunnel and it leads us to  another staircase that opens up to a drainage opening, when we climb out of it, we're in the backyard of a house. He let's go of my hand and hurriedly searches for something. I'm not sure what but, when he comes closer to me, I see what looks like a car key. He takes my hand once again and leads me to a truck on the side of the house and we get in and he starts the engine and we drive off.

After a few hours of driving, I am tired and exhausted and the sun is starting to rise signalling its already morning. I look at Gabriel and he doesn't seem tired.

"you don't look tired."

He turns to me for a brief second and chuckles.

"Well I'm sort of used to going days without sleep, so I'm aiit."

"is Guy okay?"

He turns to me again and I see how sober and pained he looks.

"I hope. He's a tough guy, he'll be fine."

He says it in a tone that makes me feel like he's trying to assure himself, than me.

"you two seem really close."

I see the corner of his lip lift and he nods.

"That's my best friend and brother, the only family I've got. He's always been there for me and..."

He just stops talking and I decide against asking anymore questions. These are the most words he has said to me since we met and I'm scared for Guy, but I know it'll affect him the most if something were to happen to Guy.
