A Day In The Rye

Chapter 15

Massimo's pov

We have the support of the police, both here and down in Mexico. Everything is in order and in no time we're on our way down there, I can feel my heart palpitate with excitement and my hands shaky and clammy with nervousness, I can't wait to see and hold her in my arms.

"How you holding up man?" Chris asks.

He pulls me out of my thoughts,

"I'm nervous but it's a good nervous, more like an excited nervous."

He let's out a small laugh as he nods

We had to convince Ace, Jacob and Raúl not to come with us, but they made us promise to keep them informed.

After few hours of driving, we finally make it to the cabin. Getting closer it's clear there was a gun fight and from the unsettled dust, we can tell it just happened. My heart drops in my stomach when I think of Skai being in that cabin, probably dead, at that thought my heart sinks even lower.

The team already had their guns drawn and were making their way to the cabin, my legs feel heavy and I'm unable to move.

"Be positive man." Chris says.

I swallow the lump in my throat from holding the tears in and I simply nod and we carefully join the others inside.

Whoever the gunmen were, the intention was to kill - everything is in ruins, shards, bullet holes everywhere.

"I've found someone." One of the cops says unto the radio.

We rush in the direction he's in to see a man on the floor, Bruce checks him, while his partner calls an ambulance. There's a faint heartbeat, he's bleeding too, so Bruce uses his jacket to try and stop the bleeding.

Chris and I, and some other cops check the other rooms and there's no one there. I feel somewhat relieved but scared at the same time. Relieved that I didn't find her body here, but scared that she's back in  josé's custody and I start getting flashbacks of that video and I feel a panic attack coming, I just drop to my knees and cry into my hands, I've never cried this much in my life, but I've never felt as helpless as I feel right now.

Chris pulls me up and engulfs me in a bro hug as he tries to console me, telling me to be strong for her and I agree. I'm madly and insanely in love with Skai and if anything happens to her, it'll kill me.

A few minutes later, the ambulance comes and in no time we get to the hospital and they push the gurney with the man on it into the theatre, I feel the man has all or some of the answers we're looking for.

I wake up to someone shaking me, I must have slept off I haven't slept in days. I try to adjust my eyes to the light and I look up to see Chris and Bruce. I look around, we're still in the hospital, I fell asleep on the chair I was sitting on.

"He's up now, we're about to question him, wanna come?" Bruce asks me.

I just nod and stand to my feet.

We walk into the ward and see a young man about my age, laying on the bed. He smiles when he notices us

"Hey I'm Guy Ferris, you must be Massimo Valastro."

He says pointing at me.

"Yes I am. Where's she? And who did this?"

"She's safe man, I gave you my word. José found out and lit up my Crib yesterday night, guns blazing and all of that. I'm surprised I survived it." he says in a husky voice.

"Do you know how he might have found the cabin? And where she is now, if you're sure she's safe?" Bruce asks him.

"He probably traced the phone or some shit. Skai's safe and they should be on their way to your crib now man. I had my friend take her over there, I can't risk leaving her here in Mexico, José is dangerous. I don't want to call Gabe now, cos José might trace them, but I suggest you go get your girl. But let me warn you, josé's still out there and along with Skai, he wants my head. He'll go to any lengths." he warns.

" Do you know where he might be and any description so we know when we see him."  Bruce asks him.

"He's been wanted by the feds for a while now, you can get pictures from there. But he has some cops here on his payroll, so try to leave the ice here out of it." Guy informs Bruce.

Bruce nods and assures him of his safety to which he just laughs and says even if he dies now, he dies a happy man because of this one act of kindness.

We thank him and Bruce tops up the security here in his ward and around the hospital.

Bruce sends Chris and I home, so we can wait or meet Skai there, while they find José to arrest him and his men.

Chris and I get on my private plane and in no time we are back on the road heading to my house and when we get to my driveway, I see a strange truck parked there. The passenger side opens and someone steps out of it....
