Chrollo POV
I meant what I said to Y/N, I will see her in a few weeks, if this auction job goes well enough, we can live like royalty for the rest of our lives. All I need to do is pull this off without any casualties and I'll stop, stop the stealing, and killing, and maybe try to lead a normal life. I've always thought of myself as an orphan, tossed into a junkyard in a city filled with outcasts. But looking back on it, orphan isn't the right word. Destined is. I was destined to be the Phantom Troupe leader, destined to meet Y/N, and maybe even fall a little in love with her. If I didn't leave Meteor City, I never would've lived how I wanted. I want to go places, see things, and take them for myself. I noticed that there is a fortune telling girl rumored to be at the auction, Neon Nostrade. I intend to ask her for a fortune, in return acting as her chauffeur to the auction.
One last job, then I'm leaving.
I think to myself as I walk back to the Troupe's hideout. As much as I love the Troupe, and I do care for them, no matter how many times I've told them to not worry about me and make sure the spider stays alive, they always stay close to me, protecting me.
When I finally get back to the hideout, I notice Machi tapping her foot rapidly.
C: "Machi? Is there something wrong?"
Machi slams her foot down and turns towards me, a look of pure anger on her face.
M: "you were supposed to come back after your talk with Y/N and you waited until the next morning to come back?! What if someone attacked you, or kidnapped you?! You wouldn't let anyone stand guard for you! I can't believe you!"
Machi stormed out of the building, I can hear her taking her anger out on a tree, I'm thankful she cares about me, otherwise I might have to dodge needles everyday. Out of the corner of my eye, I catch someone walk up the old wooden staircase in the building. I follow them as quietly as I can. Using what I know of Nen, I masked my presence to them. I turn the corner into the only room up there, but it seems they've already gone.
I walk back down the stairs to look at the rose window in the back of the building. As much as I read, rose windows always amaze me. just the texture of the window, the roughness and ridges of the individual pieces of colored glass. I run my hand over the glass, my fingers covered in blood when I finally stop. I wrap some bandages around my hand and look back at the lower level behind me, Machi is done throwing her tantrum and is leaned up against a wall.
M: "Where did you send Feitan and everyone to? Shouldn't we all be here?"
I forgot that I sent them out, they were supposed to round everyone else up and get back here...
C: "they'll be here momentarily, I'm sure of it. Entertain yourself while I catch up on some reading, oh, and save the needles for the auction.. We don't need you running out of stamina before we even do anything."
I've known Machi the longest, even though it might not seem like it. She ran my favorite shop back in Meteor City, a small fabric shop, she taught me how to weave thread and even made me a small rug from scrap thread. I'm surprised she hasn't tried to date me yet. Though, that would only complicate things, since Y/N is more my type of lover.
I sit down on the raised part of the building, leaning against the rose window. I pulled out my favorite book, "Lord of the Flies". I remember having to learn English to read it, thinking about it now, it feels kind of like a second life to me. Having to learn English helped me read this book, and this book helped me to get out of Meteor City and into my current life. It's a perfect cycle of rebirth, death, chaos, and wisdom. When I first read it, I was disturbed my the plot, but as I keep re-reading it, it all fades away. At it's base, it's the story of survival, and how those who are close at the beginning are often the most different people on the planet. It taught me to fend for myself, and that's the best way to live.
