“Overwhelmed.” I stated, wondering what he meant, but I didn’t have to ask as he continued.
“Whenever I see her I can’t handle it. She’s always with you girls, I can’t ever talk to her alone without someone else interrupting, it’s getting annoying.”
“So basically, you’re trying to say that you wanna get to know her more?”
“yeah.” he nodded enthusiastically “but I can’t, because ever since that first day, you know with the broken guitar, I’ve never been able to talk to her for more then a few minutes at a time. She was really down to earth and she didn’t go spastic when she first saw me. It was a quick hello and then she just looked out the window. I like her.” He smiled goofishly
“Ooooohhhh!” I said in a high pitched voice, as I got up. “Andys got a crush, Andys got a crush!”
I began to chant, skipping around him.
“shhh.” He said half heartedly.
“Andys got a – eep!” the toe of my shoe got hooked in one of the cracks and I went sprawling onto the ground.
Andy laughed, got up; and then helped me up.
I looked down at my jeans.
“Shit, maddies gunna kill me.” They were ripped at the knees where id fallen.
“Oh well, grunge is all the rage.” Andy said in a fake gay accent, pointing to his own ripped pants.
“Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah!” and I automatically began skipping and chanting again.
I wasn’t expecting Andy to shove me lightly as I skipped closer to him, which meant I once again went sprawling on the ground, adding more holes and stains to the new jeans.
“Iz fails at life.” He said tauntingly, in his best attempt at a girl’s voice.
“Ok.” I laughed “I get it, I’ll stop. Now help me up.”
He pulled me up then looked at me sternly. “Don’t. Tell. Anyone, Or ill steal your bass back and sell it on eBay.”
“Ooooohhhh eBay!” I waggled my fingers at him. But then relented, when he sighed and walked towards the door. “Fine.” I sighed as I chased after him. “I promise I won’t tell anyone.”
He smiled at me, and we made our way back to the green room.
When we got back, to stares from Shaun, Andy went backstage with jimmy to make sure everything was fine, because Stacey was with Julia who was chilling with bradie in the corner.
I walked over to maddie and Shaun who were talking about the pros and cons of having our band as the first support for the next few shows.
“Hey maddie. How can I fix this?” I indicated my jeans.
Maddie glared at me, smiled and then scrutinised my jeans “iz what did you do to them?”
“I tripped.” I admitted “twice.”
Shaun burst out laughing as I flushed a deep pink.
Maddie sighed and rolled her eyes at me.
“They can’t be saved,” she sighed “but if you add some tights under them that should look alright.”
I loved maddie even more at times like this.
That’s what I loved about my friends; we all helped each other out when they needed it.
Andy came back down and announced that they had five minutes to get ready.
Stacey and maddie left us then, to go and get the water and towels ready, for when the for our hero guys left the stage.
Julia came over to me smiling; she didn’t look as shy as she was when I met her a few hours ago.
“Thanks for taking me everywhere today. It was really cool, even though we did have a few problems.” We both laughed at the memory of our running to escape the screaming wave of girls and the security guards expression as Andy came and got us at the door.
Shaun looked at his watch, “bradie we gotta go up now.” He announced.
I followed him up, pulling Julia along behind me.
Judging from experience, this was gunna be the best part about the entire night.
“Stay here with the guys.” I told her, and quickly went back into the green room to get a few chairs.
When I got back she was smiling bigger then I’d seen her smile all day, and with sweat patches on her shirt.
It was me all over again, minus the broken guitar.
I laughed and offered her a spare shirt I had. She declined the offer, insisting she liked it.
That was a little weird for me, but I still sat with her as we watched the guys do their thing from the side of the stage.
“Tonight was the best night ever!” Julia smiled as I waited outside with her after the show.
I couldn’t stop grinning.
Tonight was awesome; I smiled more at the thought that I had many more to come.
