Chapter 7

Leila's Pov.

"Class, this is Cian. I want you to be nice to him and perhaps show him around a little," Mrs. Welish said. Cian turned towards her.

"That won't be necessary, Mrs. Welish," Cian whispered politely, even though his deep baritone voice could be heard from China. Mrs. Welish nodded slowly.

"Ok, let's find you a seat!" Mrs. Welish said cheerfully. I frowned. The seat next to me was the only open seat left.

"Umm, how 'bout there in the back? Near Leila Vladmir." Cian nodded mutely. He remembered me and I knew it. I pulled my Elfen Lied sweater closer to me as he started walking towards me. I moved to the edge of my seat as he neared. What am I doing?! I should be happy! I sighed, straightened my back and got ready for his body heat.

"Mrs. Welish!" A friend of Grace's stood up. The class looked at her.

"I'll give up my seat so he doesn't have to sit in the back. I mean, he does have a lot to catch up on," she continued.

I frowned. She sat right next to Grace. Grace smirked at me. Cian smiled, relieved.

"Why, thank you, Hope," Mrs. Welish smiled. Hope nodded slowly and grinned at Cian. She gathered her stuff and walked towards me. Cian sat down next to Grace as she smiled like a hungry lion locked in a room with 100 injured zebras. Yea, it was that intense. Hope sat down next to me but I paid no attention to her.

"Hi, I'm Grace," Grace said, putting all of her attention on him.

"Hey, I'm Cian." He extended his hand. Grace laughed at it and Cian raised an eyebrow. Then Grace snaked out her arms and hugged him tightly.

"Sorry, I'm a hugger," she smirked and winked at him when she let go. I hissed slightly. I thought I saw Cian glance my way but it could have been my imagination. Cian laughed and looked at Mrs. Welish who was teaching about fractions. He reached for his binder and he ripped out a piece of paper, writing something down. He slowly folded it and slipped it to Grace. She, grinning from ear to ear, quickly grabbed it. She unfolded it and read it. She giggled and wrote something back. This continued throughout the whole class. The bell rang and everyone gathered their stuff quickly while I took my time. When Grace left the room, she threw out the note. I ran for the trash can and quickly grabbed the note.

"It's ok, I'm a kisser ;)" was the first thing I saw. It was in neat, small writing so it had to be Cian's handwriting. I winced as the pain speared my heart. Wait, so he's a player? Kissing me meant nothing to him? I shook my head.

Impossible, keep reading.

"Really? Do you wanna come over today and test your lips out?" It was big and in bubbly letters. It had to be Grace's handwriting.

"You know, I wish I could but I have to be home today. It's my brother's birthday."

"Aww, that's sweet, did you get him anything? What's his name?"

"Uhh, actually, I didn't. Not yet, his name is Chad." I didn't want to but I read on.

"HA! So, omg you are so lucky I saved you from sitting next to that freak, Leila." I growled. Grace wasn't my friend anymore now, not that she was in the first place. We met in freshman year and were connected by the hip. Until, Jake came to our school. That's when everything came crumbling down.

"Yeah, I know. I saw her and practically busted out laughing. She must be a freak." I gasped and placed my other hand over my mouth. I was going to throw up. I quickly threw out the note and ran out of the classroom.

I couldn't read it anymore. I stumbled through the back doors. I pushed them open as the sun blinded me for a second, making my eyes adjust. I scrambled down the stairs.

I looked for the ladder that lead to the roof and began to climb it. I stepped on the small rocks and glanced over the edge. I clutched my stomach as waves of nausea rolled through me.

Oh god, I'm going to--

I ran behind the air conditioner and proceeded to throw up. Once I was finished, I fell to the floor and cried silently into my hands. I didn't know how long I stayed up there but suddenly, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked up to see Blade.

"I thought I would find you up here," he murmured, reaching down to wipe my eyes. Then he knelt beside me and opened his arms. I threw myself into them and continued to cry against his chest. He wrapped his arms around me tightly and held me silently. When I was done, he held tight onto me, like I would fly away from him at any moment.

"Do you want to talk about it?" He finally asked. I nodded, softly .

"What happen?" He questioned into my hair.

"This new kid, I know him b-but I just found out he hates me. It's like he doesn't remember me," my voice cracked a little.

Doesn't remember me, doesn't remember me. It echoed in my head.

"Cian?" I coughed my yes. Did Blade meet him?

"I saw him in the hall. He seems like a cool kid. Wait, did he hurt you?"

"Indirectly? Yea, I guess," I looked at the blueish orange sky. Blade's arms tightened around me. I could feel him getting tense.

"I'll kill him," Blade said simply, shrugging.

"That won't be necessary, Blade."

"I just can't stand it whe--when people hurt you," he whispered. Was this Blade's way of saying he cares about me?

"I think it's time to take you home." He stood up, picking me up along with him.

"Uhhh....," I started. Blade laughed and put me down. We both climbed down the ladder but Blade picked me up again as soon as I was on the ground.

"You're in a fragile state. I wouldn't want you breaking," he smiled and carried me home.
