It had been a week since that incident with Isaac and up until now, I still felt the guilt in shooting him. I still couldn't wrap my head around the fact that I managed to pull the trigger as I hadn't imagined myself doing that, but when Alex's face crossed my mind, I suddenly got reminded why I was doing that plan in the first place. What I did was risky as it could've been the start of a bloodbath, good thing they didn't strike back, or it wouldn't end well for both sides.
"So, how are you feeling?" Becca asked, eventually bringing me back to my senses as she plopped down on the seat next to me after the call she had since I got here at her conference room.
"Awful," I replied, sighing as I stared off at a distance.
"Awww Lauren," she cooed, "It must have been hard for you, I mean he was your dad...I'm sorry I've been busy with work, I haven't gotten the chance to check on you."
"It's okay Becks, I understand, and yeah, it wasn't easy, but...it had to be done. He hurt a lot of people, killed a lot of people...He deserves to be in jail."
"So as that Cliff Coldwell," she added resentfully, making me nod, "so what's our next move?"
"I'm preparing for what Cliff's gonna do. Isaac probably told him that it was me who brought him to jail, and if that's the case, he could do something, probably get me killed," I simply answered, but feeling agitated inside, and eventually, a worry expression had marred Becca's face.
"Tell me you got a plan for that Lauren," she said anxiously, "We need to be one step ahead of him. We can't just wait for him to do something to you..."
I slowly shook my head as I turned to look at her, "I'm at a dead-end, Becks," I answered truthfully as I actually hadn't thought of a next move yet as I couldn't seem to think straight the past few days, overwhelming emotions had stopped me from thinking of a solid plan.
"We could ask help from those two," she suggested, referring to Mike and Knowles. She was right, and I had thought about it but hadn't actually delved deeper into it. I thought of asking them for ideas, especially Knowles. He was actually the one who gave me the idea of trapping Isaac, and the one who led the team, Mike's brothers, to get to Nikolai's weapons stash, and as for Mike, I could ask him for manpower, just like how he convinced his brothers to join in, apparently they hate arrogant, and homicidal affluent people, it didn't take long to convince them, and thanks to them, the plan was a success.
"Yeah I thought about that, and I'll give it a try..." I mumbled, and not long after, the room was filled with silence, noticing Becca had started zoning out. I wasn't sure what was going on her mind all of a sudden, and even if I preferred the silence at the moment as I got a lot of things on my mind as well, I couldn't help but be curious about how she was doing. I had been occupied by things lately that I forgot to ask how she was holding up when I should had. "How are you doing Becks?" I asked, eventually causing her to look up, meeting my curious gaze.
"I...I'm okay?" she answered quizzically.
"Well, your expression says otherwise," I said, making her slowly nod in understanding as she averted her gaze.
She sighed, "Fine, honestly, I...don't know," she paused as I raised a brow, not expecting her answer, "For days, I busied myself with work so I could forget about what happened to Alex, and yeah, somehow it helped, but after that, after the work...after distracting myself, it would all go rushing back on me, and then I would feel devastated again..."
I slowly nodded, "I get what you mean, Becks. What happened to her, feels like it just happened yesterday...it's still really painful, and heavy, and what I did to Isaac just...added to that heaviness, it's overwhelming..."
