Advanced Potions was always something she had found fascinating, in contrast to many of her other peers. She loved getting the recipes exactly correct, she loved the tangy smell of the secluded classroom, but most of all, she loved seeing Hermione Granger who sat only a few seats away from her. Occasionally— if she was lucky— Hermione would shoot her a warm smile if their eyes would meet, but Y/N never had the nerve to talk to her.

Firstly, Hermione Granger was smart; Y/N was completely mesmerized with the fact that the Gryffindor would receive the same perfect scores as Y/N with no trouble, and would often surpass the majority of the Ravenclaws in grades. She obviously wasn't short of verbal wit either, as she could toss a damn good comeback at any given moment if someone dare insult her. Feisty and bold, Granger impressed Y/N to no end.

Secondly, she was the most stunning person Y/N had ever laid her eyes on. The way her honey-colored skin complimented the crown of untidy brown curls that surrounded her pretty face could keep the other girl entertained for hours by just looking at her. Her figure, to Y/N, was no short of perfect either; she was short, but had full feminine hips along with a fairly narrow waist. Everything about her was alluring and the sound of confidence in her voice when she would answer a question would make Y/N swoon every time.

And there she was, walking in, as gorgeous as ever. Weasley and Potter followed shortly after her, taking seats near to her. What Y/N would have given to be in their shoes...

"Good afternoon," drawled Snape's voice from the back of the classroom. "Today we will be making a specific kind of potion. Has anybody in here heard of Amortentia?"

Snape heaved a dramatic sigh when Y/N and Hermione were the only two hands raised; that's how it always was.

"Miss.... Granger." he nodded. "Tell me what Amortentia is with necessary detail."

"It's the most powerful yet dangerous love potion in existence," explained Hermione. "For every person, the smell is different according to whatever scents attract them."

"Very..." Snape slowly annunciated. "Good."

Y/N caught Hermione glance at her after she'd finished speaking. Avoiding her eyes for a second, she looked back up and smiled timidly. Hermione returned the smile before facing the front of the classroom once again.

"So, today," Snape ambled to the front. "We will be brewing Amortentia. Open your books to page five hundred twelve."

The sound of flipping pages filled the classroom before Y/N had landed on the recipe. The noise dissipated until the only thing that could be heard was the clicking of Snape's boots on the cobblestone floor in impatience.

"Now, I expect this to be done in no less than twenty minutes. The ingredients will be placed in your cauldron and you may begin."

At this, the cauldrons bloomed with various herbs and roots and vials of liquids. Y/N removed all of them before focusing in on her first step: dice the rose petals. She did this with ease and moved on to the next task: mix together the standard potioning water with the powdered moonstone.

Finally, she was finished with three minutes to spare. Many others were done as well, including Harry and Hermione who were talking to each other about something in seemingly great detail. Suddenly Hermione burst into laughter at something he had said, and Y/N felt herself tense up from the pang of jealousy that had hit her. She looked away.

"Your time is up." droned Snape. "Now, let's see if you have completed it correctly."

She had almost forgotten to observe it. Taking a whiff, the scent of fresh parchment and new books with a hint of sweet cocoa filled her senses. She recognized the scent immediately; it was what she would smell every time Hermione would brush by her in class or pass her in the hallways.

"Miss L/N." Snape brought her out of her daze. "Perhaps you can tell us what you smell if you did the assignment correctly?"

"Um," Y/N nearly lost her breath when Hermione's chocolate brown eyes were on hers. "Yeah..Y-Yes, Professor. I smell...."

She took another inhale of the fumes.

"I smell books new from the store. I smell... a fresh stack of parchment, the library... a bit of chocolate, maybe... I smell.. I smell..."

The gradual silence of the words fell out of her mouth in embarrassment when Hermione and her two friends stared at her in bewilderment. It was so obvious; who else smelled of the damn library besides Y/N herself?

"Well done, Miss L/N." Snape spoke. He called on another Ravenclaw, but Y/N couldn't even hear. Weasley's head kept snapping around to stare at her as if she'd gone mental. Hermione only glanced back now and then discreetly.

Class ended, and Y/N did her best to beat everyone else out but to no avail. As soon as she made it out into the corridors, she sped down the halls before a hand caught her shoulder, abruptly stopping her in her tracks.

"Y/N," Shit. It was Hermione. "Can I talk to you?"

"Y-Yeah..." mumbled Y/N. "What about?"

"I... I know this may be strange to say but," Hermione's eyes fell to the floor. "I.. think I may have smelled you in Amortentia."

Y/N eyes practically bulged out of her head. That was the last thing she had been expecting.

"I... wh-I.. wh-what?"

"Sorry, I just, thought..." The brunette sighed. "I thought when you described your potion, that you were talking about... oh, nevermind."

Hermione turned her heel but Y/N caught her and spun her back around gently.

"No, no." Y/N gazed into her eyes. "Tell me."

Hermione bit her lip in uncertainty.

"Ithoughtyouweretalkingaboutme." Hermione got out in one breath that Y/N could somehow perfectly understood.

"Did you... really smell me in the cauldron?"

"I thought so," said the brunette. "I mean... it's how your robes smell, and how your hair smells... But- not that I smell those things on purpose or anything."

"I understand," Y/N let out a small laugh. "And it was you, I've... I've liked you since the first day of this year, to be honest with you."

"Really?" Hermione raised an eyebrow. "I didn't know I was attracted to you, to be honest, I just thought that I really wanted to be your friend. But like, your friend that kisses you."

Y/N laughed shyly, and Hermione joined in. The two fell silent with grins across their faces, alone in the corridors. When Hermione began to lean in, Y/N followed suit, and their lips met in a gentle kiss that only lasted for a few seconds before they were interrupted.

"Get to class, now!" Snape's voice boomed. "And stay at least a foot apart!"

The two girls giggled. They turned to leave, before Hermione's head turned again.

"We should spend some time together," she said. "I really like you."

"Well," Y/N smirked. "As long as as we're friends that just so happen to kiss."
