I doodled aimlessly on the couch with my finger as I waited for mom to come out and after a few minutes, she finally showed up, I sat there, stunned as she played with her short hair with a nice denim outfit. I quickly glanced at the wall and noticed the time, only half-an-hour was left now.

"Mom!" I yelled as she made her way to the main door.

"What?" she started, "make your breakfast, cereals are in the cupboard and the milk is kept in the fridge, hurry up, school is about to start in half-an-hour." but before she could leave, I yanked her hand in a quick motion.

"You are not going anywhere," I said, warningly raising a finger. She raised her hands in the air as a sign of surrender.

"What do you want?"

"Tell me everything about your business, EVERYTHING!" I yelled she sighed.

"Look, I know that you are mad at me because of my behavior, but I can't tell you everything that is happening in my life, everyone has some secrets which are not to be disclosed, like you never told me that how you got that wound on your head." she pointed out the affected area as she spoke and I got reminded of my unfortunate visit to that isolated road and how I fell there, the wound was now nearly healed but it still ached when touched.

"But, mom, I care for you!, this is the only reason I wanted to know about your work" my voice stuttered as I spoke. She hugged me.

"I love you Shay, but, some things are not meant to be disclosed, all I can tell you is that the job which I do is a little pathetic," she said as she backed off from the warm embrace.

"Love you too mom, please stay safe" this was only left for me to say, although, she told me that she is safe, still I was worried.

After a few minutes, she left and I went to the kitchen, made some pancakes, and made my backpack, ready to leave. I was so excited to meet Kate as Alex told me that she will join us in school, but, still, I feared to face Mr. Phil and a part of me was also concerned for mom. Today was a pathetic day as I had plans with my friends to go shopping as the prom was this weekend only, I had to study for my Biology test which was next week, we had plans with Kate to hang out after the shopping and I also wanted to meet Christy, telling everything to Mr. Phil was also not a good idea, I wasn't up for another detention for the interrogations and considering what he said about his friendship with Robbin, he probably knew something about Christy which made me shiver. A part of me was excited for today, but, still deep inside, I wanted to ditch this day. I locked the door and left. 'Today is a long day...'

On my way, I met Alex who was as excited as me to meet Kate. We both walked together for the class (as we were the only ones to reach the school late).

"Shay?" Alex asked, breaking the silence.

"Yes?"

"Will you tell me what happened yesterday? In detention?" he probably knew that something wasn't right. I told him about each and everything and waited for his reaction.

"Hmm...." he mused, "I think you should have a word with her, all this is so confusing, I mean, If this is the truth, then, what it has to do with you? Why is she telling you all this?". After what Alex said, made me thoughtful, he was right, why was she even telling me all this?.

"Come in, " Mr. Phil said in a calm voice as we entered in the middle of a lecture, well, that was surprising, how come Mr. Phil became so polite? , he would've probably thrown us directly into the principal's office, but, surprisingly, he didn't.

After the classes, I finally met Kate.

"Shay!!" she almost jumped on me as she sprung forward to hug me. The embrace was warm, we all took turns to hug her and chatted for hours near the school.

"Ugh! I am so exhausted! Can we please talk in some decent place? Standing in the middle of the street is pathetic!" Anna winced as she rubbed her calf.

"Yeah, we need some energy for shopping also" I added.

"What about the Lost Maples Cafe?" Alex suggested with a broad grin, spreading across his face.

After our nonsense talks, I finally asked Kate for the prom

"Um... Kate?"

"Yes"

"Will you go to the prom with me?" I asked. She almost blurted her coffee on Jeremy's face as she stared at me in shock.

But before she was about to explode, I spoke "as friends of course "

"Yes!!" She snapped, finally returning to her senses.

After our crazy talks, we all went shopping together, it was fun, but Jeremy had problems finding his choice.

It was evening when we were finally done. We ate some food and then complimented each other's dresses.

"How's mine?" Alex asked as he came out of the changing room. All the girls went to buy some new heels so, we all decided to search for some more fabulous dresses.

"You look awesome Alex!" Jeremy exclaimed, and I nodded, but Mike was thoughtful.

"I think you should try this one" Mike spoke and shoved him inside with another dress in his hands.

"Hey, how about this one?" I asked, showing a black suit.

"Nah, too classy, definitely not for you." Mike mused.

After selecting some dresses, we finally bid our goodbyes.

Great! Now the best part is over. I was scared for what awaited me at home- preparation for the Biology test, getting yanked by Christy on the way, mom scolding me, and what if I met Robbin on the way? I shuddered at the thought.

I kept my shopping bag and school bag together on my table and sat there for studying.

After a while, I felt an enormous amount of pain in my head. I was too concentrated that I forgot where I was sitting. I rubbed my forehead and closed my books, enough of studying!

Mom still wasn't home, so I decided to go out for some fresh air. But before I could even leave my room, I heard a knock.

I sprung and opened the door, and the person standing behind was unexpected.

MY eyes widening at the vison as I muttered under my breath- "Mr. Phil?"
