'Eliza's POV:
Angie just got further in the competition, and the teacher just called my name to go up against the new kid. He was kind of cute...
"So, my policies are that we should all be equal, but we have to work or contribute to society in some way." I was saying, "Becau-"
"Haven't we heard this before?" Thomas said, interrupting me. "Angelica Schuyler just said the same thing. Oh, and look at that, your last name is Schuyler too."
"Tommy, please settle down." Mr. Washington said
"You two are obviously influenced by something. Your parents, perhaps?"
"Thomas, this is your first warning." the teacher's voice was rising
"Tommy, just stop, please!" James M. whispered to him.
Thomas kept going, "You girls can't hold offices. You're GIRLS! Did you hear that? GIRLS!!! Men are the only people who should hold prominent positions anywhere. And Alexander Hamilton shouldn't either. He's an immigrant. He's not from America!"
"Would you SHUT UP? For once in your life be quiet! Alex is my friend!" John yelled, standing up.
"Our friend," said Herc, doing the same as John
"Oui," said Laff, joining his friends. "So casse-toi!"
Would ya look at that? Thomas is already making new friends.
"I'm sure Alex is a nice kid. You haven't even met him yet!" I said.
"Well, he's an immigrant! All immigrants are the same!"
"NOT TRUE!" Alex and Laff yelled at the same time.
"ENOUGH!" Mr. Washington yelled. "THIS IS ALEX AND ELIZA'S DEBATE, THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO SHOULD BE TALKING! So, uh, back to you, Eliza."
"Um, oh yeah, so we should be equal, but we need to work hard for it or else we don't get as much stuff as other people who do work. There are equal opportunities to work for everyone." I said.
"I agree with you, but if someone needs help we should help them, I understand your reasoning, but if someone is unable to provide for themselves we should help them." He talked for like, the next fifteen minutes.
"Alright. VOTE!" Washington said.
John, Laff, Herc, Tommy, Aaron, and James R. voted for Alex.
Angie, Maria, and James M. voted for me.
:-/
"No hard feelings, right?" Alex asked me
"Right," I said. It wasn't his fault that he was put up against me.
"Alright, up next is Aaron and Maria," the teacher said
"Aaron can move on. I don't like politics." Maria said.
Aaron punched the air.
"Okay, um, next up is James R and Hercules."
"I believe that we should all be free and we should be able to do anything we want!" Herc said.
"Now, that's absurd. I would give those same rights," James R said, in a thick country accent. "but I think that I can easily win against Mr. Irishman because people like me more. You wanna dance me a jig, little leprechaun?"
Herc, Laff, John, and I stood up. "Why, you little," Laff started saying.
"Top o' the morning to you too. And don't try to fight me, you'll have to surrender, Mr. French Fry."
"SI VOUS DITES UN AUTRE MOT, JE VOUS ATTAQUERAI!"
"What was that? Escargot?"
By this time, everyone was holding up their whiteboards voting for Herc. I was looking at Tommy confused. "He's going overboard with the stereotypes," he said.
"Alright, up next is Tommy and John. John, you're up first" Mr. Washingmachine said.
Charles Lee walked into the room.
"Charlie, you're in Mr. Adams's classroom, not ours." the teacher told him.
"Well, I'm here now, so this is my classroom now."
"Um... okay?"
Herc, Laff, and Alex were already holding up their signs for John.
Biased much?
"FREEDOM FOR ALL" John yelled, "MAN OR WOMAN, BLACK OR WHITE (or other races)"
"He says in parentheses," The Revolutionary Set said.
"NO MATTER WHAT!!! FREEDOM!!!"
"Is no one getting bored of these words? John Laurens, Hercules Mulligan, the Schuyler Sisters, Marie Lafayette, Alexander Hamilton. Do we want these stances only in our school government? Vote for me and there will be more than that. So, it's voting time"
Me, Angie, Alex, and Laff voted for John.
James M, Maria, James R, Charlie, and Mr. Seabury (why does he get to vote now?) voted for Tommy.
Herc was asleep.
"Tommy moves on," Mr. Washington said.
