Erica sprang off the bed quicker than I could blink, mood going from easygoing to Ice Queen once again.

"I was just demonstrating how Ben's math skills deflate into a pile of sand when I get close to him," Erica said. "To prove my point, Ben, what's forty-two times ninety-three?"

I knew the answer, which was three-thousand nine hundred and six. But the look on Erica's face told me not to answer in front of Zoe otherwise.

"It's...um... I don't know," I said, selling the lie with a purposely created blush on my face.

Zoe still didn't seem to believe us. "That doesn't explain the lovey-dovey look on your faces when I came in," she said. "Erica, if you were only 'demonstrating', then why would you go with the act?"

"To sell it even further," Erica said. "Do you think Ben would internally self-destruct if I cuddled him with a serious look on my face?"

"Cuddle!?" Zoe said, face getting even redder. "That explains what you two were doing earlier."

"Were were not!" I said, pointing to the security camera in the top-right corner. "Look there for proof!"

"I disabled it," Erica said shamelessly. "I didn't want anybody else seeing- certain things."

Zoe muttered something under her breath and stomped down the hallway, virtually leaving me and Erica alone again.

Erica just shook her head and strolled out of the room.

I stared at the little medal she had given me, remembering the look on her face when I had smiled.

I sighed. Erica was right.

Relationships do mess up our spying.
