"What are you doing?"
I gulped and turned back slowly. His face was emotionless as he looked at the pizza.
"I-I can e-explain." I dropped the piece of pizza and slowly stood up.
"You were eating pizza? Don't you know that we are vegetarian? And mom would be super crazy if she finds chicken in the house!" He said, tensed.
"I'm...sorry. I was hungry and I can't sleep with just sweets." I said slowly as he held my face and made me look at him.
"It's okay, you will slowly cope up with it and it's better if you finish eating quickly." he smiled. "I won't tell anyone."
"Really?" My face lit up. "Thank you so much!"
He smiled and said. "Don't do this again and throw the packet after you eat." with that he went to bed as I quickly filled my stomach.
·
"Anant ji" I called after eating.
"Hm?"
"Aap bohoot ache hai (you're too good)." I smiled.
"Subhratri (good night)." he smiled back.
"Aap ko bhi(same to you)." with that I went to sleep.

"Manpriya!"
"Manpriya ji!"
"Priya..!"
"Honey? Eh...Manpriya ji! Wake up!"
I rubbed my eyes and sleepily looked at Mr Anant who was calling me for so long.
"Uwa! What happened?" I said, irritatedly.
"It's already morning. Please wake up or else mom will throw a tantrum." he said, worriedly.
I looked at the clock and averted my eyes towards Mr Anant.
"But it's just 5." I said.
"Yea, our family wakes up at 4:30 and I was calling you for so long. We are late for Pooja." Anant said.
"Who is Pooja?" I narrowed my eyes and he facepalmed himself.
"I mean Aarti." he said.
"Who's she now??"
"Uff- I mean to worship to god." he said as I made a "Ooo" face.
"But I want to sleep." I pouted.
"Please get up if you don't want to get scolding on the first day." he pleaded and I finally wake up.
God, what type of family is this? I don't wake up before 9 and here?
I shook off my little misery and came out of the room and saw Pooja was started.
"Did you saw the time?!" My mother-in-law shouted.
"I'm sorry, I'm not used to it." I apologized.
"What do you mean by not used to it? Didn't your mom taught you anything?" She yelled.
How dare she?
"Excuse me but not every family is the same and I didn't commit any sin that you're shouting at me!" I said.
Shit! Did I spoke too much?
"How dare you talk to my mother like that?" Anant's sister, Disha said.
"How dare she talk about my mother like that?" I replied back.
For god sake, please control your tongue!"
"I can't believe that you are newly wed bride!" One of his aunts said, shocked as I remained silent.
"I can't believe..." mother-in-law sighed.
"What are you doing, Manpriya ji?" Anant whisper yelled.
"I-I am sorry, but I can't tolerate someone insult my mom or me." I said, and looked down.
"Why do you think I insulted your mom?" My mother-in-law, Mrs Chauhan said. "She is my best friend after all."
"What's done can't be undone and she is a modern girl and she will slowly learn everything." Shakshi, Anant's brother's wife explained.
"Yes mom, please forgive her." Anant said.
"Fine, we are getting late for Pooja." she sighed and was about to go to the Pooja hall when Disha, Anant's sister stopped her.
"Wait mom!"
We all turned towards her as she looked directly at me.
"What happened, Disha?" Mrs Chauhan asked.
"Isn't it our family's tradition that if anyone comes for the Pooja without bathing will not get to eat the whole day?" She smirked, making me shock.
Is she bullying me?
"Yes so..." Mrs Chauhan turned towards me "It's again you?"
"Mom, she didn't knew that. Please forgive her." Anant said.
"You should have also told her." Disha narrowed her eyes.
"Can you please shut up for a moment?" Shakshi said, annoyingly.
"Don't teach me what I have to do!" Disha glared at her.
"Enough!" Mrs Chauhan shouted. "I can't tolerate this drama anymore! Manpriya, just go to your room and do whatever you want! Also you are not getting to eat anything before the sun sets."
"What?!" I shouted. "How can I live without eating?!"
"It's your problem." she said.
"How can you do this to my cousin?" Nilangana asked "Is this how you treat a newly wed bride?"
"It will be better if you don't poke your nose in our family matters. You are our guests, so behave like that." Mrs Chauhan said, bit harsh.
"Anant ji..?" I turned towards him as he looked nervous.
"I don't have anything to do...sorry." he said.
"What are you waiting for?" Disha mocked. "Go and sleep peacefully!"
"Disha!" Anant hissed.
"Were are getting late, everyone join the Pooja!" Mrs Chauhan said as everyone followed her.
I looked at them angrily as tears filled my eyes. I went to my room and locked the door.
How can they do this to me? What was my fault? And how can I survive without eating?
I never did anything wrong and no one ever mistreated me like this. And how can they scold me on the first day and Anant ji? He also didn't fight for me.
I'm afraid...if I don't protest then they will continue harassing me.
But mom said that they are good people...then why mom? Why did you throw me in this family? Was I becoming a burden for you..?
I thought to be polite but...if I do then will they behave properly? And...my father-in-law or other in-laws also didn't said anything.
I don't want to live here anymore...I want to go back home.
I was lost in my thoughts and didn't noticed that its already 8. The door opened slowly and Anant ji came in.
"Are you okay, Priya ji?"
Does it look like I'm okay? *averts eyes* Fool!
