Afterschool, Ferb sighed as he got out of his last period class. His homecoming proposal was tomorrow, but he and Emma were going to hang out for the afternoon while Isabella and Phineas were on a date. He walked out of the school and saw his brother spinning Isabella around outside the bus stop. He smiled and rolled his eyes, but quickly scanned the scene for Emma. He found her getting on the bus, halfway up the steps, so he sprinted up behind her.
She walked to her seat but as she was about to sit down, he tapped her on the shoulder, and she jumped and turned around. She exhaled when she saw him.
"Oh, it's just you... you startled me!" she smiled, scooting over and tapping the seat next to her so he could sit down. He smiled at her and sat down.
"So, how was school?" he asked.
"It was... stressful. I don't know how I'm going to finish all these classes with good grades." she sighed, putting her head in her hands.
He wrapped his arm around her and held her tight. "You can do it! Hey, it's the second day we've both gone to all of our classes! That's an achievement?" he grinned, rubbing her back.
She looked up at him and lightly laughed while giving him a look of adoration. "You're very optimistic, aren't you?" she said before sitting up and laying her head on his shoulder. He put his head on top of hers and used his other hand to slightly brush her cheek with his thumb, putting his other fingers under her chin. He felt her cheeks rise and knew she was smiling.
Emma's smiles always put Ferb in a trance. The smile lines that appeared faintly on her face showed that she smiled more often than anything else. He had never seen her without a smile for more than 5 minutes, and that was one of the things he loved about her. She was always so happy, and he didn't know how she did it. The few times that he had seen her down hurt him down to his core, because if Emma was sad, it felt like the world was going to collapse.
She moved her head to look at him. "I can practically see the gears turning in your head... what are you thinking?" she smiled.
He sat there for a second trying to figure out his words. He had never been this confused about what to say. Usually, whenever he decided to speak, he knew exactly how the conversation was going to go, but with her, he felt the words fly out of his brain, leaving him in a speechless state.
He opened his mouth, thinking he had found what to say, but closed it as he realized it didn't make sense.
"Are you okay, Ferb?" she asked, her face shifting into an extremely concerned expression. "I can tell something's wrong."
He couldn't find words, but all of a sudden, he burst into tears. She gasped at his sudden expression of emotions and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Don't cry... I'm here..." she whispered to the green haired mess in her arms.
He inhaled deeply after sobbing for a second. "Emma, I have to talk to you when we get off the bus."
"W-what? Did I do something?" she asked, pulling away and furrowing her thin eyebrows and frowning.
"No! It's not you, I just... I gotta tell you something." he said, as she wiped his tears off of his face and smiled sadly.
The brakes hissed and the bus came to a stop.
"MAPLE DRIVE EVERYONE!" the bus driver yelled.
Ferb jolted out of his mood and sighed before getting up. He smiled and took Emma's hand. They got off the bus and walked towards Emma's house.
She grabbed his hand after catching up to him. He looked at her and smiled while squeezing her hand.
"What's going on?" she asked, her face unchanging from her worried look.
