“Marry me.” I heard him say. So this is his girlfriend. I took another look inside. I thought that if I was the girl, I wouldn’t accept such a horrible proposal. He didn’t even have an expression on his face. I would think he wasn’t even sincere.
“I’m sorry.” The pretty girl replied. What? She refused? Well, what a smart girl. “I can’t marry you Rob. We’re still very young for this.”
“Why?” He muttered. As if it wasn’t obvious, you’re a jerk and she doesn’t want to live with one forever. “You know my situation right now Jane. If you’re not going to do this now, we’ll probably lose the chance of ever doing it.”
“I’m sorry Rob. I just can’t do it.”
And then my phone rang. Dang. They were going to catch me eavesdropping. I hurriedly turned my phone off and started walking fast but I heard the jerk was already out of the door. He called me using the ‘bitch’ name. A jerk as always. I, however, pretended not to hear him so I continued walking even faster. I heard him say something but I was already too far to hear it. I wondered if he saw my face. I hope he didn’t. I saw a lot of people came out of the big doors; they were finally finished. I saw Nikki and I hurriedly went into her. I dragged her straight to the elevator and hid behind her. She wanted to face me but I didn’t let her. I wanted the elevator to close as fast as possible but there were people who were coming in. Until it finally closed. I felt relieved of the thought that the jerk didn’t come and follow me. That would have been scary.
We were at the ground floor when Nikki was finally able to face and talk to me. But we saw Jake coming to us so I wasn’t able to give her an answer.
“What took you so long?” He said.
“Let’s go to your car first.” I told him while moving ahead of them.
We were on Jake’s car; I was seated in the front seat, while Nikki was at the back still confused of what really happened moments ago.
“Em, what happened?” She started. Jake looked confused.
“You are not going to believe this.” I told her with an evil face, almost doing the evil laugh for I saw the jerk being rejected. Oh, he must be really ashamed now. But I turned my head to Jake; he must be still innocent about what we were talking about. “Hey Jake, do you know who the greatest asshole in the school is?” He was surprised. Jake must have not known him like I didn’t know him before.
“No, who are you talking about?”
“Rob Van Garrette. Emily must really hate the guy now for he threw spaghetti on her shirt.” Nikki said. Jake chuckled or more accurately choked.
"Wait what did you say his name was?" I once again asked because the name suddenly felt awfully familiar.
"Rob Van Garrette. The dude I told you about earlier?" Nikki answered. Maybe it was because we were talking about him earlier today so his name sounded familiar. Whatever, if he was that much of a jerk, I didn't think I'd like to remember his name either.
“And why are you chuckling?” I spat at Jake.
“Nope, nothing.” Still chuckling.
“So tell us Em, what happened?” Nikki pursued the topic. I can’t help myself from smiling.
“Oh yeah about that. Rob Van Garrette you say? He proposed to a beautiful girl in the music room where I happened to pass by.” I grinned. “Guess what happened?” They were waiting… like idiots. “Yeah, he was rejected.” I laughed, I laughed hard. It felt so good. But Nikki didn’t seem to believe while Jake didn’t give any expression. He was just driving and not paying much attention anymore. What does he care anyway about this Rob guy.
