Chapter 5

Catlynn's POV

"I'm bored..." I said, flopping on the sofa bed we've had for 7 years. 

"Cat, you're 19. Do something with your life." Ryan said, doing the dishes. Ryan's been over at our house a lot.

"What do you want me to do?" I asked. "I've tried everything. Music, dance, acting, singing, Evan even made me try out for varsity soccer!" 

"Yeah, I remember you nearly kicking the soccer ball in Jessica's face." Elle said, laughing. I slapped her and said, "Rude." 

"Do you want to have a Jess and Cat night? We haven't had one of those in years!" Jessica said. I was almost about to say yes, then my phone vibrated.

Can you come over? I'm bored- Lily

"Can't, sorry Jessica. Lily asked me to come over." I said.

"Ooooh!" Ryan and Elle said at the same time.

"Isn't that your crush?" Jessica said. I covered her mouth with my hand and said, "Jessica Keenan Wynn, shut your gosh darn mouth."

"Catlynn Sunshine McLemore. The whole world knows you have a crush on that girl." Ryan said. I laughed, and said, "I have to go. Love you guys." 

"Love you too, Sunshine."

"Lily. Lily. Lily! Earth to Lily!" I said, waving a hand in front of her face. 

"What?" she said, snapping to attention. "Oh, hey Cat!" she said, giving me a hug.

"What the heck are you watching?" I said while staring at Lily's TV. There were two little kids dancing on the screen.

"Dancing with the Stars: Juniors!" she said. "The kids are so cute. Sure, there's only been 1 season so far, but I've watched it over and over again and have practically every single step memorized."

"A reality show? C'mon, Lily, you're better than that!" I said, laughing.

"This seems like something your family would watch, actually." Lily said. 

"No, it wouldn't. Family Movie Night in our house is basically 'we have a card game championship and someone ends up dancing.'" I said. 

"C'mon, Cat! Give it a chance! You're gonna get addicted to this." Lily said, plopping me down on a beanbag. 

"How...old is this?" I asked, watching two teenagers doing a slow dance. 

"2018. I heard there might be a revival. I'm so excited for that!" Lily said, turning the volume up. I still wasn't totally hooked on it, but might as well give it a bit of a chance. 

Lily kept squealing throughout the entire show, and I cringed. "Shut up! If you want me to watch the show, stop talking!" I said, and Lily cracked up.

I got a text from Ryan. How's the date going? 

I groaned and threw my phone across the room.

"What? Who was it from?" Lily asked, pausing the show.

"My dad."

"Ok, your family is so confusing! Everyone has a different last name, yet they're all related to you somehow?" Lily asked.

I laughed and said, "God, how many times have I had to explain this? Oh, um, obviously Elle is my mom. I consider Ryan my dad. Jessica's my aunt, Katie's my other aunt, Evan and Jon are my two older brothers, and Alice and Barrett are my sisters. Got it now?" 

Lily laughed, and said, "Yep. You look like a really weird combination of all of your family members." 

"I've gotten told that I look like a mix of Jessica and Elle. People say I have Elle's eyes and Jessica's hair." Lily laughed, then her dad knocked on the door.

"What do you want?" Lily said sarcastically, and I giggled.

"Lily, I have news!" Andrew said excitedly. "Fitting, since you're watching DWTS." he said.

"Is this...what I think it is?" Lily asked. "Am I...on the show?"

Andrew nodded, and Lily started squealing. "Oh, Catlynn, you are too." Andrew said, and Lily hugged me. 

"I'm gonna have to compete against you, though." I said sadly, but pulled out my phone, only to find a hundred texts from my family.

DID YOU HEAR? YOU'RE ON DWTS!- Jessica

Yeah, I heard. I'm excited!- Me

Then a bunch of texts from the group chat I made with my friends popped up. 

Cat, I'm on Dancing with the Stars!- Cesca

Me too!- Astrid

Alex told me I'm on some reality TV show- Em

WE'RE ALL ON DANCING WITH THE STARS, I GUESS!- Comet

This is exciting!- Me

How in the world did I get on a dancing show?- Ryder

It's for turning non-dancers into dancers- Lily

That's rude- Ryder

IT WASN'T AN INSULT- Lily

I shut off my phone and squealed. "I guess I'm going to L.A!" I said.

"We're all leaving tomorrow." Andrew said. "Pack your stuff." 

I ran out of Lily's apartment and waved, then ran all the way home, nearly breathless.

"I guess she heard the news!" Ryan said. "Congrats!" 

"Can't talk, gotta pack!" I said, hugging Ryan. 

Time for a new chapter.
