Catlynn's POV

I sunk down in a corner, digging in my suitcase. I pulled out my ratty, light orange security blanket and held it close to my chest, sobbing. I was supposed to be an adult, too old to have a security blanket. But even after 7 years, I still carried my blanket around.

Barrett and I had been close for a few years, and then we drifted apart. We went years without talking until I met Matilda. After that, we got close again. I told myself we wouldn't drift apart again, and we didn't. We kept getting closer and closer the more time I spent with Matilda, and even after we broke up and Matilda moved to Los Angeles.

I remembered when I would get ice cream with Barrett, Grey, and Matilda. We would always go at least once a week. I also remembered the times that I would dye my hair and have to hide from Elle at their house for hours, washing the dye out of my hair and playing cards and telling jokes until Elle came over.

Matilda and I would hang out in Barrett and Kerry's changing room during shows, and Kerry wasn't on as much as Barrett, so I knew Kerry. I went with Matilda and Emily to visit Kerry in the hospital a little over a year ago. We went every day for a week, every day from 2 pm to 5 pm. We would watch a movie or two, trying to cheer Kerry and her family up.

I was brought back to reality when I heard a knock on the bedroom door, and I tried to wipe my tears away, only for more to appear. I sighed, burying my face into the blanket.

"Come in." I said, my voice shaking. I heard the door creak, and I looked up to see a puffy-eyed Em came in.

"Do you want go get some food? Matilda, Comet, and I are going. We need to get out of the house." Em said, wiping away stray tears. She didn't make eye contact with me, keeping her eyes on her shoes.

"Do the adults know you're going?"

"I don't think the adults even know if we exist anymore. They're always on the phone with lawyers, hospitals, news stations, really anyone and anything they can. They're trying to feel like they're in control of everything, but they won't ask us how we're doing, and they won't answer our questions," Emily said. "So are you coming?"

"Yeah, I guess." I sighed, standing up and putting my blanket on the floor where I sat.

Em's POV

"So who's been able to talk to either of their parents since we heard about the crash?" Cat asked, and everyone stayed silent.

"Comet?" Cat asked.

"I haven't talked to Mom or Taylor." Comet shook her head.

"Em?"

"Jenny asked if I had eaten, but that's about it," Em sighed.

"Matilda?"

"You know how close Barrett and my dad are. I don't think he'll talk to anyone. Plus, we don't even know if it's their plane."

"I've checked, that was the only plane from New York to Los Angeles for the next few hours, and they're supposed to be here in an hour. It was their plane." I said, looking at my menu instead of everyone. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw some reporters come in and start walking over to our table.

"Can we ask you some questions about the crash?" One asked, and Catlynn shook her head.

"We don't know any more than you do," Matilda said. She sighed and started playing with her long blonde hair. Once the reporters gave up and left, Matilda turned to Cat and said, "Have you heard from your parents?"

Cat sighed and said, "I've heard from Elle once. I've been trying to get in touch with Jessica, but she won't answer her phone." Cat started to fiddle with her shirt, she was about to cry.

"Cat? Are you okay?" I asked.

"None of us are okay. I'm scared Barrett's gonna die." Matilda said. Cat nodded in agreement, and said, "Why does all the bad stuff happen to my family?"

"This affected all of us, Cat. You're not alone in this." Comet said.

"Listen, I've been hospitalized so many times in just 6 months. I've hurt all my limbs at least once. I've visited one of my family members in the hospital more times than I can count. 5 of us have been in the hospital at least once, including me. 5! Jess, Elle, Alice, Ryan, and me. My ex-boyfriend died, and so did my best friend. I broke up with Matilda, the love of my life, and I regret it so much. I've been through more traumatic events than I can count." Cat said, crying.

"And now, it's 6." Matilda said under her breath. Matilda sighed and pulled out a necklace from her pocket.

"You still have that?" Cat asked. Matilda handed me the necklace so I could look at it. It had a violin on it, with a rose through the strings. "Cat gave this to me when we were dating and I've never taken it off since." Matilda said.

"Wow. Um, I feel special." Cat gushed. "I'm surprised that you didn't throw it in the trash already."

"Ha, I would never. It's from you, and that's what makes it special." Matilda said, blushing.

"Ew, love," Comet said, and we all burst out laughing.

"We all should get back to Ben's," Cat said, changing the subject. "It's getting kind of late."

We all agreed, getting up, thanking the employees, and leaving.

"Em!"

"Yeah?" I asked, going through my suitcase looking for my phone.

"I can't find my blanket." Cat came into my room crying. I hugged her, wiping tears from her face.

"Where did you see it last?"

"I left it on the floor when we left, and it's not there."

"Well I think we should look again-"

"I've been looking for a half an hour, it's not there!" Cat exclaimed, sobbing.

"Oh, Cat! I have your blanket right here, I washed it," Ben said, handing her the blanket. Cat gave him a dirty look, but took it without comment. Matilda ran into the room, a shocked expression on her face.

"We're going to the hospital. They said to say goodbye."
