We were just kids. Cain would always make fun of me, and pull my hair. He was so mean when we first met. He moved into the house behind ours. The only thing in between was an ally way no one ever used. My family had seen his parents out in the backyard and invited them over for dinner. It turned out that we were the same age. We were 6 at the time, and they decided for us to go off and play. Cain had harassed me the entire time. Told me I was ugly and a brat. He even went as far as pushing me down. When that happened, tears sprung to my eyes. I didn't want him to think I was a baby, so I turned to where he couldn't see me.

"Ally?" The mean boy had asked confused.

"What do you want jerk?" I sniffled, hoping he didnt hear it.

"Whats wrong?" He sat down beside me, and scooted close.

"Nothing." I spat, but made the mistake of turning my knees in his direction. They were red, and bleeding a little from being scraped.

"Did I do that?" He sounded so sad that I shook my head no. I didn't like the way he sounded. It made me more sad.

"Yes I did." He wrapped his arms around me and held me tight. "I'll never hurt you again Ally! I promise." He then surprised me more by placing a small kiss on my cheek.

Aftr that we became best friends. Inseparable. He was never mean to me again. If someone bullied me, then he would beat them up. He would get in so much trouble and I would feel awful.

We were 8, and he had just gotten grounded.

"Why did you do that Cain?" I asked him.

He sat down at the edge of his bed and ran his hands through his brown hair. "They were being mean to you Ally!"

I threw my hands up like a drama queen. "So what? I am fine. You can't always beat people up for being mean. All he did was call me ugly."

"But your not ugly Ally!" He exclaimed.

I felt my cheeks get warm and I turned my face away from him.

"But you're grounded now. We can't play!" I frowned.

"It's only for a day!"

"Okay Cain." I started to walk out the door.

"Ally?" His whisper made me pause, but not turn around. I was still mad at him.

"Yeah?"

"I'll always be here for you. I'll never let anyone hurt you!" I smiled to myself and continued walking.

I shrugged off the memory as I pulled into my driveway. Cain was back. He looked good as ever. His brown hair was still cut short from being in the military, and his hazel eyes were bright as always. He towered over me at about 6"1'. He really filled out since he left. He had always been built, but now his muscles were more prominent. They showed through his tight shirt.

I was going to avoid him as long as I could. Try to make him stay away. I knew it wouldn't work forever though. He would want to know whats wrong. And the worst of it, is I knew he would hear rumors. He would want to know the true story from me and try to coddle me. There was only one problem with that, he lied. He didn't keep his promises. He wasn't always there for me and I did end up hurt and alone.
