I leaned my forehead against the door and sighed.
"Come on Ally, open the door." I pleaded.
"Go away Cain!" She tried to growl, but I didn't miss the sniffle at the end. I felt my heart ache when I realized she was crying.
"Let me in... Please?" I tried again, my voice softening.
"No!" She said with more force.
I sighed. "Fine, but you can't avoid me forever. You will talk to me. I miss you!"
Only silence reached my ears. I closed my eyes tight and rubbed my temples. I was starting to get a head ache. This was going to be harder than I thought. I needed to come up with a way to get her to speak to me. I turned away from her door and started walking back home. Today was Saturday, so I could try again tomorrow as well. She would have work Monday.
Speaking of work, I needed a job. I had plenty of money saved up, but I was going to get bored having nothing to do all the time. I could apply at the police station.
"Hey big bro," my sister gretted me as soon as I stepped into the house.
"Hey sis! Any plans today?" She was dressed up nice. Her blonde hair was straight, and she was wearing makeup around her sparkling blue eyes. Her outfit consisted of a pink summer dress, and black flats.
"Yeah! I'm going to the movies with some friends. Want to come?" She almost squeaked with excitement.
"I would Darcy, but I have other plans. I'm sorry!" I said, while placing my hand on her hair and rufflkng her har.
"Hey!" She yelled. "Stop it! You're messing it up."
I laughed to myself as she sprinted to the bathroom, so she could fix it.
Mom and dad were out for the day doing some shopping, but dad had left his truck for me just in case I needed to go somewhere. I grabbed the keys off the counter, and made my way outside.
Pulling up to the station, I was glad to see it hadn't changed much. I was already getting tired of change. It was an older brick builing with the whole front of the building made of glass. You couldn't really see anything inside though.
As I opened the door, a blast of cold air hit me. I smiled, summer was always a killer here.
"Cain!" A woman yelled getting my attention. I looked up at the receptionist desk and saw my old friend Rose. She always told us that her parents named her that because of her unique dark red hair. They were right, the color was similar.
"Hey Rose. How ya been?" I laughed as she jumped from her seat and crashed into me for a hug.
"I'm good! What are you doing here?" Her brown eyes stared up at me.
"I'm looking for a job!" I stated nonchalantly.
She smiled, pulling back. "Well you are in luck. Mason is the cheif!"
My eyes got wide with surprise. "Really?"
She just nodded, excitedly then turned and lead the way.
Mason was one of my other best friends in school. He was never as close as Ally was to me, but he was my best guy friend. We used to have a pretty big group of friends. There was me, Ally, Mason, Rose, Jerry, Keelie, Josh, and Bree.
Mason was always the good one out of all of us, so it doesn't surprise me too much that he got a job that enforces the law. He couldn't do something bad even if his life depended on it. He was also the tallest out of all of us at about 6" 3' and had blonde hair and brown eyes. He used to work out a lot back then.
Rose was the outgoing one. Nothing could ever bring down her mood. But if you ever did make her mad, you needed to get out of there as soon as possible. She was turn into a freaking crazy person. Trust me, I've seen it.
Jerry and Keelie were always together. They dated all through high school and I wouldn't be surprised if they were married by now. They were the picture perfect couple. He had black hair and green eyes, while she had short brown hair with blue eyes. You would never see them apart. They were also that couple was always mushy, and couldn't keep their hands off each other. But boy when Jerry would do something wrong, Keelie turned into a firecracker.
Josh and Bree were the twins. The were identical, the only reason you could tell them apart was because Bree was a girl. They both had blonde hair and blue eye. Almost the exact facial structure as well. It was crazy how alike they were. But when it came to personalities they were completely opposite. Josh was the loud obnoxious one that always got into trouble. Bree, on the other had was the shy nerdy girl who could never do anything wrong.
"Cain?" A deep voice brought me back to the present.
"Mason?" I asked. Wow I don't know how, but he got taller. He looked to be about 6"5' now. He was huge. Looks like all that working out did some good for him.
"How are you man?" He asked, giving me a slap on the shoulder.
"I'm good. Looking for a job!"
"Well you're in luck. We have a spot open!" He beamed.
"Great! What position?"
"Well I still need you to fill out an application and everything and make sure you have all the requirements. I think with your time done on the force though, you should be able to meet them all. It's as a detective, so there will be a little bit of training you need. Other than that, you should be good!"
"Wow! Thanks. Where do I apply?" I asked excited. Detective Slay. I think I like the sound of that. Mason chuckled and waved his hand for me to follow.
I looked around the room and noticed I was in his office. There were pictures of him with a family all over.
"Holy shit! Is that Bree?" I asked examining a photo.
"Yeah man. We got married two years ago. Also have a year old son now!"
"Wow." I said in awe. "Guess I could of seen that coming. Ya'll were so much alike. So much has changed."
Mason's face took a look of understanding when I said the last sentence.
"I'm guessing you've seen Ally?" He asked a little upset.
"Yeah. She won't let me in. Just yells at me to go away." I sighed, runing my hands through my hair. "I don't know what else to do. How to get her to talk to me. She is a total different person now then when I left."
"Well.." Mason started leaning back in his seat. "It's a good start. She has spoken to anyone in a year. If someone tries to talk to her, she just gives a small sad smile then walks off. You'll figure it out. You were closer to her than anyone else. She can't forget everything ya'll went through together. She is just going through a rough time, I can't imagine how she is taking it all. Hell, even after two years. She lost the two most important people of her life in the same day. And not only that, but she did it alone. She didn't let anyone be there for her, and we all tried. She didn't want us there. Finally we just gave up. Everyone did. To this day, no one knows what really happened that night. She didn't tell us the full truth. I may not know her like you do, but I knew she was holding stuff back. I don't know man. All I can say is, good luck!"
I simply nodded, already hearing all of that from my mother. I filled out the paper quickly, then handed it back to Mason. I told him to just give me a call and headed back to the house. A lot was on my mind. All of it revolved around Ally though. Like it always did.
My only plan of action right now was to just bug the shit out of her, before she finally gives up and listens to me. I didn't know how long it was going to take though, because Ally was a very stubborn stubborn girl.
