It was Cain's tenth birthday. He had ditched his friends to come over to my tree house with me. We were both sitting againt the wall eating cake when he surprised me.

"I'm going to marry you someday!" He exclaimed.

I remember laughing at him. "What are you talking about, Cain? "

"I'm going to marry you, Ally!" He set his plate down and looked at me seriously.

"Don't joke about things like that." I had scolded.

All of a sudden he got up, and wrapped his arms around me in a hug. "I'm not joking! You're perfect!" He whispered in my ear.

I felt my cheeks get hot. I didn't want him to see me blush and make fun of me, so I hugged him back.

"What did you want for your birthday?" I asked as I pulled away.

"A kiss!" He laughed.

I remember looking at him like he was crazy! "Who is going to kiss you?" My voice was squeaky by the end of the sentence.

"You!" He yelled excitedly, before grabbing my face, and smashing his lips against mine.

I sat frozen not knowing what to do. When he pulled back, he had a huge smile on his face. His smiles were always contagious to me, so I grinned back.

"Great!" He cheered. "Now I am your first kiss, and you are mine!" He clapped to himself.

I laughed and looked away as another blush made its way to my cheeks.

Not long after that Cain's parents came looking for us, and told us to head back to the party. That it was rude to ditch all of the people who came. We said 'yes ma'am' and went back.

That wasn't the only time Cain had kissed me. After the first time, he made a habit and game out of surprising me with them. I never kissed him first. He would always just surprise me, then run off.

We were both eleven, and our parents had taken us to the mall together. They told us we could walk around since it was such a small town, and the mall wasn't big. All we had to do was meet them at the food court in two hours. After that Cain had grabbed my hand and took off down the halls. A mall cop had yelled at us to stop running, but Cain never listened.

We reached one of the bigger stores, and Cain told me we were going to play hide and seek. I was going to be the one hiding, so I smiled then took off. Near the back of the store I found a circle rack of clothes and hid in the middle. He would never find me here! After about ten minutes, I started getting bored. I was about to just give up when I head Cain yelling my name.

"Ally, I always find you!" He yelled.

I had to put my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing. Next thing I know, I screamed as I was picked up from behind, and placed out of the rack. Cain quickly turned me around, and kissed me.

"I win!" He laughed before turning away yelling that it was his turn to hide.

I hated playing hide and seek with him when he would hide. I never in my whole life found his once. I would always give up, and he would come find me again.

A few weeks after that Cain got in another fight because of me. They were older guys at around 13 saying that I would be theirs or something. Whatever that meant.

Cain got grounded again, but this time for a week. I was so mad at him. They didn't do anything wrong. Cain begged and begged for my forgiveness. He even got down on his knees and pleaded. That's when I broke and laughed at him. He was my best friend. He had said that they weren't good kids, and that's why he fought them.

He was wrong though. Everyone was good, people just did bad things sometimes. I remember us arguing about it for a little while before he gave up and said I was right. With my dad being the judge here, I knew people did things wrong every now and then, but it didn't make them a bad person. People just make mistakes sometimes.

I jumped out of my trance when I heard someone knocking on door. I scrunched my eyebrows together. No one comes by my house anymore. They all finally gave up on getting me to talk or anything.

I made the mistake of opening the door before looking through the peep hole.

"Cain." I barely whispered, before I shut the door right in his face.

I turned with my back again the door and slid to the floor. Resting my head in my hand, I realized it was going to be a lot harder to ignore and avoid him than I thought. But I wasn't ready. I didn't know if I would ever be ready.

Cain has always been able to tell when I was lying or not, so he would make me tell him the real story. What really happened. But I can't, people's lives will be in danger if I do. Especially Cain's.
