It was the first day of our Freshman year. I wasn't as scared as most of the people starting high school because I knew I would always have Cain by my side. He would never let anything happen to me!
School wasn't very far from our house and since neither of us had a car, we walked. He held my hand the whole time washing all the nerves away. When we got there, we followed the crowds to get our schedule. We had three classes together and thankfully lunch. That was the one I was worried about. I didn't want to spend lunch trying to find a seat and eating by myself. If that was the case, until I got friends, I would of probably just went to the library.
The day passed by in a blur by the time lunch arrived. There were two elementary and middle schools but only one highschool, so I didn't know a lot of the kids my age. I knew a few, but until now it had always just been Cain and I.
Cain met me by my classroom since his was just across the hall and we walked to lunch together. He told me he met a few friends that we were all going to sit to lunch together. I was thankful for that. When we got there, we rushed to get our food and looked around the cafeteria. A tall guy our age with blonde hair and brown eyes was waving us over to a table. He was sitting with five other people. Three of them girls and two of them were guys. They all had friendly faces on which made me smile back.
"Hey guys. This is Cain, the guy I was telling you about." he started before he turned to me.
"I'm Mason." He smiled.
He had a nice smile. "I'm Ally!"
He lifted his hand for me to shake. "Nice to meet you Ally! This is Bree, Rose, and Keelie. The guys are Josh and Jerry." I smiled at them as he pointed at each person. After that we all became automatic friends. I found out Josh and Bree were twins and that Jerry and Keelie were dating. Rose became my best girl friend though. She was outgoing like me. Bree was a little on the shy side and Keelie was always with Jerry. She was nice though.
I noticed that Mason was closer to Cain then the other guys as well. He wasn't shy, but he was the kind of guy who never did anything wrong. So unlike Cain in that department. Josh was the trouble maker who loved to prank people and Jerry was the most normal one out of all of us.
Even though we had a big group of friends now, nothing got in between me and Cain. He was still always by my side and never ditched me. He was still the over bearing protective ass. And he was still my favorite. Nothing would ever get in between us.
Rumors started going around school that Cain and I were dating. I tried to squash them, but it was hard when Cain wouldn't tell them they weren't true.
"Why don't you deny us being together?" I had asked him.
He looked at me thoughtfully and smiled. "Because Al, if guys think we are together, then no one will mess with you!"
I scoffed and stomped my foot. "But what if I want guys to notice me. I got to get a boy friend sometime!"
His eyes narrowed for a second before taking a deep breath to calm down. What was that about?
"I will start denying it then, for you. But I'm telling you this now. If someone hurts you, I swear.."
"I know! I know!" I cut him off. "You will take care of them for me, and not in a nice way. Then you will get in trouble with your parents, and I will be mad at you! I know the drill!" I giggled.
He threw his arm around me and continued down the hall. "You know me so well!"
I laughed and pushed him off of me, running into my class room before he could catch me. I turned around and stuck my tongue out at him, letting him know I won. He simply laughed shaking his head, and turned around to head to his class.
That was how our days went. We would walk to school together. He would walk me to every class. Then we would walk home together. We were inseparable. We would hang out with our friends during lunch and sometimes all of us would get together on the weekends. Those were the most fun. Everyone would argue about what to do. Josh would always want to do something illegal that Rose agreed with. Mason would argue with him saying he didnt want to get in trouble, which Bree would agree with. Jerry and Keelie would be too busy making out to care, while Cain and I just sat back to enjoy the show of them all fighting back and forth.
Most of the time Mason got his way, but every now and then Josh would win. Most of the time he would win when it came to parties though. Everyone would make up a plan to their parents whose friends house they were staying the night with, then we would all meet up and get ready together. The girls would meet up at Rose's house since her parents were ever rarely home, and the guys met up at Josh's. After that, Mason and Josh would pick us up in their cars and we would show up to the party together.
I remember the first party we went to was a disaster for me. Cain had went off to get us some drinks while I stood all by myself feeling out of place. Girls were grinding up against guys on the make shift dance floor. People were stumbling up the stars to do God knows what. Some were basically having sex in front of everyone and others were already passed out with half of their clothes off.
"You're looking awfully lonely!" A boy stumbled his way to me.
"Nope! I'm just waiting on my date to bring me a drink!" I decided this was a good time to act like Cain and I were together. The guy was giving me the creeps. He looked like he was undressing me with his eyes.
"Well, he shouldn't of left you all alone then! Someone might snatch you up." By this point he was standing right in front of me, and I was cornered in. I started to panic.
"Just leave me alone." I spat, not in the mood for this shit.
"I don't think I will." He said leaning in. I turned my head away from him, and went to push him away.
"She said leave her alone!" I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard that voice. Cain shoved the guy away from me and wrapped his shoulder around me. "You okay?" He whispered in my ear.
I just nodded.
"She's mine!" Cain almost growled to the guy before turning to me. He grabbed my face with both of his hands and smashed his lips onto mine.
This kiss was different though. It wasn't just a peck like they usually were. I had grown used to Cain kissing me randomly, but this time he swiped his tongue across my bottom lip. I gasped opening my mouth a little. He slipped his tongue in my mouth and started to control my mouth. I barely heard the guys say, "Whatever man. She ain't that pretty anyways." I was so lost in the kiss that I was surprised when Cain ripped his mouth from mine and decked the guy in the face, knocking him out cold.
"Cain!" I yelled.
"Well he deserved it!" He merely shrugged before wrapping his arm around me, and walking us to the dance floor to join all of our friends. He acted like the kiss didn't affect him at all. I figured it was just for show for that guy to leave us alone, so I never brought it back up.

I sat up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. 'Damn it, Cain!' I thought to myself. 'Why did you have to come back now.' Since he had returned, I couldn't stop thinking about him. Hell, dreaming about him. I was thankful a tiny bit, because it got my mind off other things. But then again, I was fearful. He had always been close to me and people knew that. People knew that if anyone could help me, it was him. What was bad is that, people also knew if anyone could get the truth out of what happened that night, it would be him. Bad people knew that. If I said a word, it would be his life on the line. I couldn't chance that. I had always loved Cain. Besides my parents, he was the most important person in my life. Even now. I couldn't let anyone close.
I had always been the girl that thought everyone was good. People just make mistakes, but everyone has a light inside them. They just need to find it, and let it out. But the people who murdered my parents made me see the truth. Some people were bad. Awful. Nothing could change them or bring them back from over the edge. Nothing could make them better.
Cain had always told me that I was niave. That I lived in my own little bubble. Even when someone would be mean to me or would hurt someone, I made an excuse for them. He was right. No excuse could be made for what happened to my parents. No excuse could be made for what happened to me.
